Italian Parliament
The Italian Parliament ( it, Parlamento italiano) is the national parliament of the Italian Republic. It is the representative body of Italian citizens and is the successor to the Parliament of the Kingdom of Sardinia (1848–1861), the Parliament of the Kingdom of Italy (1861–1943), the transitional National Council (1945–1946) and the Constituent Assembly (1946–1948). It is a bicameral legislature with 600 elected members and a small number of unelected members (''senatori a vita''). The Italian Parliament is composed of the Chamber of Deputies (with 400 members or ''deputati'' elected on a national basis), as well as the Senate of the Republic (with 200 members or ''senatori'' elected on a regional basis, plus a small number of senators for life or ''senatori a vita'', either appointed by the President of the Republic or former Presidents themselves, ''ex officio''). The Legislature XIX of Italian Republic ( it, XIX Legislatura della Repubblica Italiana) is the current legislature of the Italian Parliament, which started on 13 October 2022. The composition of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic is the one resulting from the 2022 Italian general election on 25 September, called after the dissolution of the Parliament announced by President Sergio Mattarella on 21 July. Per the 2020 Italian constitutional referendum, in the Chamber the number of members has been reduced from 630 to 400, while in the Senate the number of elective members has been reduced from 315 to 200. Democratic Party (Italy)
The Democratic Party ( it, Partito Democratico , PD) is a social-democratic political party in Italy. The party's secretary is Enrico Letta, who was elected by the national assembly in March 2021, after the resignation of the former leader Nicola Zingaretti, while its president is Valentina Cuppi. Gianfranco Rotondi (born 25 July 1960) is an Italian politician and a member of the Chamber of Deputies. Biography Rotondi was born in Avellino, Campania. Political career Graduated in law, he was first elected in the Chamber of Deputies in 2001 as member of the House of Freedoms and Union of Christian and Centre Democrats in the uninominal electorate of Rho. However, in 2005, he left UDC over disagreements about the relationship with Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia, which Rotondi wanted to be closer. He then founded a new party strongly inspired on Christian ideals and the former Christian Democracy party, called Christian Democracy for the Autonomies. In politics, a casual vacancy (''casual'' in the sense of "by chance") is a situation in which a seat in a deliberative assembly becomes vacant during that assembly's term. Casual vacancies may arise through the death, resignation or disqualification of the sitting member, or for other reasons. Green Europe ( it, Europa Verde, EV), officially Green Europe – Greens (''Europa Verde – Verdi''), is a green political party in Italy. Its leaders are Angelo Bonelli, long-time leader of the former Federation of the Greens, and Eleonora Evi, a former member of the Five Star Movement. It was established as an electoral list to take part to the 2019 European Parliament election in connection with the European Green Party. Italian Left ( it, Sinistra Italiana, SI) is a left-wing political party in Italy. SI was launched in November 2015 as a parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies (full name: Italian Left – Left Ecology Freedom), including Left Ecology Freedom (SEL), dissidents from the Democratic Party like Future to the Left, and splinters from the Five Star Movement. At its launch, SI included 32 deputies, who were soon followed by 8 senators (who formed a sub-group within the Mixed Group of the Senate in February 2016), and 2 MEPs. The mixed group ( it, Gruppo Misto, GM) is a parliamentary group active in both houses of the Italian Parliament, the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. The groups comprise all the deputies and the senators, respectively, who are not members of any other parliamentary group. For them, membership of the Mixed Groups is the default option. Members of the Mixed Groups may form sub-groups reflecting their party affiliation. Three deputies are needed for the formation of a sub-group in the Chamber, while individual senators can form sub-groups in the Senate. South calls North ( it, Sud chiama Nord, ScN) is a regionalist and populist political party in Italy, mainly active in Sicily, founded by the former mayor of Messina, Cateno De Luca. History On 25 June 2022, in the run-up to the Sicilian regional election, former mayor of Messina Cateno De Luca, along with former Five Star Movement MEP Dino Giarrusso, launched their own movement "South calls North". South Tyrolean People's Party
The South Tyrolean People's Party (german: Südtiroler Volkspartei, SVP) is a regionalist and autonomist political party in South Tyrol, an autonomous province with a German-speaking majority in northern Italy. Founded on 8 May 1945, the SVP has roots in the Deutscher Verband, a confederation of German-speaking parties formed in 1919 after the annexation of South Tyrol by Italy, which shared many of the same leading figures as the SVP. An ethnic catch-all party, the SVP is aimed at representing South Tyrol's German-speaking population as well as Ladin speakers, and is mainly Christian-democratic but nevertheless quite diverse, including conservatives, liberals and social democrats.
