Islamic Salafi Alliance (Kuwait)
The Islamic Salafi Alliance ( ar, التجمع الإسلامي السلفي) is a Salafi political grouping in Kuwait headed by Khaled al-ـSultan Bin Essa. Its founded in 1981. Of the fifty elected members of Kuwait National Assembly three seats belong to the Islamic Salafi Alliance since the 2013 elections. In the February 2012 general elections the Islamic Salafi Alliance managed to capture four seats, and another six were taken by people with similar ideas. Khaled AlـSultan Bin Essa
Khaled Sultan bin Essa (born 1940) was a member of the Kuwaiti National Assembly, representing the second district. Bin Essa earned an MA in business administration and was Chairman of the Kuwait Graduates Society before being elected to the National Assembly in 2008. He served as vice-speaker of the National Assembly between 2009 and 2012. Salafi Movement
The Salafi movement or Salafism () is a reform branch movement within Sunni Islam that originated during the nineteenth century. The name refers to advocacy of a return to the traditions of the "pious predecessors" (), the first three generations of Muslims, who are believed to exemplify the pure form of Islam. The House of Sabah ( ar, آل صباح ''Āl Ṣubāḥ'') is the ruling family of Kuwait. History Origin The Al Sabah family originate from the Bani Utbah confederation. Prior to settling in Kuwait, the Al Sabah family were expelled from Umm Qasr in southern Iraq by the Ottomans due to their predatory habits of preying on caravans in Basra and trading ships in Shatt al-Arab. According to one oral tradition, the Al Sabah family settled across various regions in southern Iran and Iraq, until they finally settled in what is now Kuwait around the early 1700s. According to another oral tradition, told to the Political Agent by Shaikh Abdulla, the Sabahs fled drought in central Arabia in 1710. Kuwaiti General Election, February 2012
Early general elections were held in Kuwait on 2 February 2012, the country's second general election in a three-year period. The election's turnout rate was 59%.. One hour before polls closed, 238308/400296=59.53 percent, rounds to 60 percent. However, in June 2012 the Constitutional Court declared the elections invalid and reinstated the former parliament. The court said the dissolution of Parliament in December 2011 by Emir Sabah Al-Sabah was unconstitutional. In response, opposition MPs resigned from parliament and demanded a full parliamentary system. After the dissolution of parliament, a new election was set for December 2012. The National Assembly ( ar, مجلس الأمة) is the unicameral legislature of Kuwait. The National Assembly meets in Kuwait City. Political parties are illegal in Kuwait, candidates run as independents.
