Kuwaiti General Election, February 2012
Early general elections were held in Kuwait on 2 February 2012, the country's second general election in a three-year period. The election's turnout rate was 59%.. One hour before polls closed, 238308/400296=59.53 percent, rounds to 60 percent. However, in June 2012 the Constitutional Court declared the elections invalid and reinstated the former parliament. The court said the dissolution of Parliament in December 2011 by Emir Sabah Al-Sabah was unconstitutional. In response, opposition MPs resigned from parliament and demanded a full parliamentary system. After the dissolution of parliament, a new election was set for December 2012. Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) is an official state news wire service based in Kuwait. History and structure KUNA was established in 1956. It was reorganized in 1976 as an independent body. However, it functions as a branch of the Ministry of Information, although it has an independent budget. The agency has a section with the title of Health and Environment which covers regularly updated news on environmental issues. The National Democratic Alliance ( ar, التحالف الديمقراطي الوطني, Al-Tehalef Al-Dimoqrati Al-Watani) is a liberal political bloc in Kuwait. History and profile Of the fifty elected members of Kuwait National Assembly in 2008, two belong to the NDA: Mohammed Al-Abduljader and Mohammed Al-Sager. Mohammed Al-Sager
Mohammed Jassem Al-Sager (born 18 June 1951; ar, محمد جاسم الصقر) is a journalist, businessman, and politician. Background Al-Sager received a bachelor's degree in economics from Whittier College (California, US) in 1975. He then worked for five years at the Industrial Bank of Kuwait, where he became Corporate Finance Manager. In 1980, he left the bank to become Chairman and Managing Director of Coast Investment & Development Co. Journalism In 1983 he began working as a journalist, serving as editor-in-chief of ''Al-Qabas'' (English: "The Firebrand"), a daily newspaper. He continued in the role until his election to Parliament in 1999. Ahmed Al-Sadoun
Ahmed Abdulaziz al-Sadoun ( ar, أحمد عبدالعزيز السعدون) (born 1934) is the Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly from October 2022. He was previously the speaker from 1985 to 1999 and from February 2012 until it was declared that the February 2012 elections were invalid. He is the leader of the Popular Action Bloc in the Assembly and served for eight terms. He represented the third district. Al-Sadoun worked in the ministry of communication before being elected to the National Assembly in 1975. Al-Sadoun is a real estate executive.
