National Democratic Alliance (Kuwait)
The National Democratic Alliance ( ar, التحالف الديمقراطي الوطني, Al-Tehalef Al-Dimoqrati Al-Watani) is a liberal political bloc in Kuwait. History and profile Of the fifty elected members of Kuwait National Assembly in 2008, two belong to the NDA: Mohammed Al-Abduljader and Mohammed Al-Sager. MP Ali Al-Rashid originally affiliated with the NDA, but left the party on 23 November 2008. The party had around six MPs in the 50-seat Assembly in 2009. The NDA encourages the empowerment of women and nationalism instead of groupings based on sect or social class. As of 2010, it was mostly supported by young Kuwaitis. Bashar Al-Sayegh
Bashar Al-Sayegh ( ar, بشار الصايغ, born 29 January 1977) is a Kuwaiti journalist and politician. Detention On August 18, 2007 Al-Sayegh was arrested by the state security services after comments that insulted Kuwait's ruler, Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, were posted on his personal website, www.alommah.org, although the comments were posted anonymously and deleted by AlSayegh 15 minutes later. Kuwait's Interior Ministry has said the arrest of journalist Bashar Al-Sayegh, over comments about the country's Amir, was lawful and denied press claims the reporter had been kidnapped. Acting Interior Undersecretary Major General Ahmad Al-Rujaib said in a press conference that the comments were punishable by law. Mohammed Al-Sager
Mohammed Jassem Al-Sager (born 18 June 1951; ar, محمد جاسم الصقر) is a journalist, businessman, and politician. Background Al-Sager received a bachelor's degree in economics from Whittier College (California, US) in 1975. He then worked for five years at the Industrial Bank of Kuwait, where he became Corporate Finance Manager. In 1980, he left the bank to become Chairman and Managing Director of Coast Investment & Development Co. Journalism In 1983 he began working as a journalist, serving as editor-in-chief of ''Al-Qabas'' (English: "The Firebrand"), a daily newspaper. He continued in the role until his election to Parliament in 1999. Ali Al-Rashid is a former Kuwaiti politician member, representing the second district. Born in 1967, Al-Rashid worked as a lawyer before being elected to the National Assembly in 2003. Al-Rashid affiliated with the liberal National Democratic Alliance, but left the coalition on November 23, 2008. Opposed severing ties with Denmark, Europe On November 6, 2006, the parliament voted 22-15 to approve severing diplomatic ties with Denmark over the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy and spending about US$50 (€39.20) million to defend the prophet's image in the West. Both votes were nonbinding, meaning the Cabinet did not have to abide by them. Mohammed Al-Abduljader
Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Abduljader is a former member of parliament in the Kuwaiti National Assembly representing the second district. Al-Abduljader was the deputy secretary general of the Kuwait Democratic Foundation; a progressive, liberal Kuwaiti political organization that is a strong advocate of civil liberties, and of political and economic reform. Born in 1964, Al-Abduljader studied geopolitics and worked in the Ministry of Finance before being elected to the National Assembly in 2008. In 2008, Al-Abduljader ran for office under the banner of the liberal National Democratic Alliance; an umbrella coalition of different liberal political figures and groups, including the Kuwait Democratic Forum.
