Isla De Pascua Department
Isla de Pascua Department, also named Easter Island Department, was one of the departments of the historical province of ValparaÃso before the "regionalization" of 1974. It was named after Easter Island and comprised such territory and the Sala y Gómez island. History The department was created by Law No. 16.441 by president Eduardo Frei Montalva. It became effective on 1 March 1966, when it was published in the ''Diario Oficial de la República de Chile''. Hanga Roa was declared as the capital of the department, and would comprise the territories of Easter Island and Isla Sala y Gómez. Its only commune-subdelegation was Isla de Pascua, subdivided into three districts. The law also indicated that the department would belong, in Chamber of Deputies elections, to the ValparaÃso and Quillota departmental circunscription. The Presidential Republic ( es, República Presidencial) is the period in the history of Chile spanning from the approval of the 1925 Constitution on 18 September 1925, under the government of Arturo Alessandri Palma, to the fall of the Popular Unity government headed by the President Salvador Allende on 11 September 1973. ValparaÃso Province (historical)
ValparaÃso Province ( es, Provincia de ValparaÃso) is one of eight provinces of the central Chilean region of ValparaÃso (V). Its capital is the coastal city of ValparaÃso (pop. 275,982). Isla Salas Y Gómez
Isla Salas y Gómez, also known as Isla Sala y Gómez ( rap, Motu Motiro Hiva), is a small uninhabited Chilean island in the Pacific Ocean. It is sometimes considered the easternmost point in the Polynesian Triangle. Isla Salas y Gómez and its surrounding waters are a Marine Protected Area called Parque Marino Salas y Gómez, with a surface area of 150,000 km2 Throughout its history, the island has been largely untouched by humans, due to its diminutive size and remoteness. Eduardo Frei Montalva
Eduardo Nicanor Frei Montalva (; 16 January 1911 – 22 January 1982) was a Chilean political leader. In his long political career, he was Minister of Public Works, president of his Christian Democratic Party, senator, President of the Senate, and the 27th president of Chile from 1964 to 1970. His eldest son, Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle, also became president of Chile (1994–2000). Frei's Christian Democratic Party supported the Armed Forces intervention to remove his successor Salvador Allende from office in 1973, after the Chamber of Deputies, on 22 August 1973, accused Allende of violating the Constitution. He was later a vocal opponent of the Augusto Pinochet regime. On 22 January 1982, Frei died in Santiago, Chile, following surgery. Assassination was suspected by some but has never been proven.
