Iona College (Windsor, Ontario)
Iona College is a small affiliated college of the University of Windsor located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Initially founded by the United Church of Canada, in 2016 the college announced it would become an interfaith college with a board of directors representing a variety of religious groups. History In December 1963, prior to its formation, Iona was included alongside Canterbury College and Assumption University in an affiliation agreement with the University of Windsor. Iona College was officially opened in 1964 by the United Church of Canada. It was named after the island of Iona in Scotland. Original building The college's original campus consisted of a single house located at 208 Sunset Avenue on the campus of the University of Windsor. The building was formerly the home of Bruce J. S. An affiliated school (also affiliated college, federated school, federated college or federated university) is an educational institution that operates independently, but also has a formal collaborative agreement with another, usually larger institution that may have some level of control or influence over its academic policies, standards or programs. Kurt Meyer
Kurt Meyer (23 December 1910 – 23 December 1961) was an SS commander and convicted war criminal of Nazi Germany. He served in the Waffen-SS (the combat branch of the SS) and participated in the Battle of France, Operation Barbarossa, and other engagements during World War II. Meyer commanded the 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend during the Allied invasion of Normandy, and was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. After ordering the mass murder of civilians and prisoners of war (POWs) several times during the conflict, Meyer was convicted of war crimes for his role in the Ardenne Abbey massacre (the murder of Canadian POWs in Normandy). He was sentenced to death, but the sentence was later commuted to life in prison. He became active in HIAG, a lobby group organised by former high-ranking Waffen-SS men, after his release. Ecumenical Theological Seminary
The Ecumenical Theological Seminary is a private seminary in Detroit, Michigan. Founded in 1980 as the Ecumenical Theological Center, the seminary offers graduate degrees and certificates in religious studies. It is housed in a building built in 1889 to house the First Presbyterian Church; the seminary began leasing the building in 1992 and was donated the building, lands, and endowment in 2002.
