Imre Von Santho
Imre Szántó, worked professionally as ''Imre von Santho'', (1895, Budapest – 1957, Frankfurt/Main) was a Hungarian fashion photographer and illustrator, based in Berlin and Vienna between the wars. Career In the 1920s, he worked as a fashion illustrator and he produced erotic illustrations, which he signed ''I. de Chanteau''. In the 1926 Handbuch des Kunstmalers (Directory of Berlin artists) he is shown at W15 Fasanenstrasse 33. He worked for the Agentur Schostal in Berlin from 1929 onwards. In the years between the wars, the Agentur Schostal had its head office in Vienna, with branches in Paris, Milan, Berlin and Stockholm. It was particularly successful in the 1930s up until the declaration of the Second World War. The main customers were print media, including magazines such as Die Dame, Die Woche and Uhu in Germany and Moderne Welt, , and Wiener Magazin in Austria, to which Schostal supplied images relating to culture, fashion and glamor. ''Die Woche'' (, "The Week") was an illustrated weekly newspaper published in Berlin from 1899 to 1944. It reported on popular entertainment, including "sensationalist crime stories", and covered celebrities in sports and show business. Its publisher was newspaper magnate August Scherl, who also owned the ''Berliner Lokal-Anzeiger'', a Berlin paper. By 1916 Scherl had been bought out by the (politically conservative) Alfred Hugenberg, Hugenberg Press, and ''Die Woche'' came to play a part in the politics of the day, specifically in promoting an image of Paul von Hindenburg as both a military man and a civilian, aiding his appeal across the German population. ''Uhu'' (meaning ''Eagle owl'' in English) was a monthly magazine published between 1924 and 1934 in Berlin by Ullstein Verlag. It is seen retrospectively as a pioneering publication of the Weimar period. History and profile The first issue of ''Uhu'' appeared in October 1924. Long before other publications ''Uhu'' showed trends in culture and science that later became manifest, such as the importance of broadcasting and television. Literary talents such as Fritz Kahn, who became famous later with his visualizations of body functions, or the futurist Ludwig Kapeller found their most important publication platform in the magazine. Johanna Maria Magdalena "Magda" Goebbels (née Ritschel; 11 November 1901 – 1 May 1945) was the wife of Nazi Germany's Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels. A prominent member of the Nazi Party, she was a close ally, companion, and political supporter of Adolf Hitler. Some historians refer to her as the unofficial "first lady" of Nazi Germany, while others give that title to Emmy Göring. Pál Funk, born Pál Pinkász, known professionally also as ''Angelo'', (31 January 1894, Budapest, Hungary –13 December 1974, Budapest, Hungary) was a leading twentieth-century photographer in Hungary. He was also a cinematographer and fashion designer. Early life He was partly of Italian ancestry, and his family had included many artists. His great-grandfather, Alessandro Angelo, the creator of the frescoes at the Hofburg in Vienna, and also, reputedly, designed sets for Gioachino Rossini. Heinrich Harrer
Heinrich Harrer (; 6 July 1912 – 7 January 2006) was an Austrian mountaineer, sportsman, geographer, ''Oberscharführer'' in the ''Schutzstaffel'' (SS), and author. He was a member of the four-man climbing team that made the first ascent of the North Face of the Eiger, the "last problem" of the Alps. He wrote the books ''Seven Years in Tibet'' (1952) and ''The White Spider'' (1959).
