Ian Hughes (diplomat)
Ian Noel Hughes (born 5 December 1951) is a British diplomat who has served as ambassador to Guatemala, El Salvador, Liberia and South Sudan, and high commissioner to Sierra Leone. Biography Hughes was educated at Khormaksar (then within the United Kingdom's Colony of Aden) and St John's School, Singapore. He joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1971 and served in Kabul, Warsaw, Tegucigalpa, Berne and New Delhi, and as deputy head of mission in Mexico City and Mumbai, before being appointed ambassador to Guatemala (and non-resident ambassador to El Salvador and Honduras) in 2006. He was High Commissioner to Sierra Leone (and non-resident ambassador to Liberia) 2009–13. In March 2013 he became ambassador to South Sudan. He was replaced in May 2015. Honduras
Honduras, officially the Republic of Honduras, is a country in Central America. The republic of Honduras is bordered to the west by Guatemala, to the southwest by El Salvador, to the southeast by Nicaragua, to the south by the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Fonseca, and to the north by the Gulf of Honduras, a large inlet of the Caribbean Sea. Its capital and largest city is Tegucigalpa. Honduras was home to several important Mesoamerican cultures, most notably the Maya, before the Spanish Colonization in the sixteenth century. Sarah MacIntosh
Dame Sarah MacIntosh (born 7 August 1969) is a British diplomat who is the Deputy National Security Adviser for International Affairs. She previously served as High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Ambassador to Liberia and British Ambassador to NATO from 2017 to 2022. Biography MacIntosh joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1991 and served at the UK missions to the UN in New York and Vienna, and in the British embassy in Madrid. She was strategy coordinator for the UN mission in Kosovo 2004–05, and High Commissioner to Sierra Leone (and non-resident Ambassador to Liberia) 2006–08. She then took a fellowship at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University 2008–09. Julie Chappell
Julie Louise Jo "Jules" Chappell (born 2 April 1978) is a British diplomat who served as British Ambassador to Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras from 2009 to 2012. At age 31, she was Britain's youngest-ever ambassador. Early life and education Chappell was born in Poole and raised in Shapwick, Dorset, and won a scholarship to St Swithun's School, Winchester. She studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Brasenose College, Oxford, graduating with a BA degree in 1999. She was captain of Oxford University women's lacrosse team and went on to represent England at lacrosse, winning a bronze medal at the under-19s world championship in the USA. Career After graduating, Chappell joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Republic of El Salvador is the United Kingdom's foremost diplomatic representative in El Salvador, and in charge of the UK's diplomatic mission in San Salvador.
