Ian Banbury
Ian A. Banbury (born 27 November 1957) was a British cyclist. He won the bronze medal in the team pursuit at the 1976 Montreal Games. He raced as an amateur for the Hemel Hempstead cycling club and as a professional for a number of British-based teams, including Holdsworth-Campagnolo, MAN Trucks, and Moore Large. He competed on the road and the track, particularly in the individual and team pursuit events. Hemel Hempstead
Hemel Hempstead () is a town in the Dacorum district in Hertfordshire, England, northwest of London, which is part of the Greater London Urban Area. The population at the 2011 census was 97,500. Developed after the Second World War as a new town, it has existed since the 8th century and was granted its town charter by Henry VIII in 1539. Nearby towns are Watford, St Albans and Berkhamsted. Cycling has been contested at every Summer Olympic Games since the birth of the modern Olympic movement at the 1896 Summer Olympics, at which a road race and five track events were held. Mountain bike racing entered the Olympic programme at the Atlanta Olympics, followed by BMX racing in 2008 and freestyle BMX in 2021. Prior to the 2020 Summer Olympics (which was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.), all events were speed races, but the 2020 programme featured BMX freestyle for the first time.
