Hungary In The Eurovision Song Contest 1994
Hungary was represented by Friderika Bayer, with the song "Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet?", at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 30 April in Dublin. "Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet?" was chosen as the Hungarian entry at a national final called Táncdalfesztiválja on 5 February. This was Hungary's first appearance in a Eurovision final after their debut entry failed to progress from the pre-qualifier ''Kvalifikacija za Millstreet'' in 1993. Before Eurovision Táncdalfesztivál 1994 Táncdalfesztivál 1994 was the national final organised by broadcaster Magyar Televízió (MTV) and held at their studios in Budapest, hosted by Dorottya Geszler. 15 songs took part with the winner being chosen by a 16-member jury who each awarded between 1 and 9 points per song. Friderika Bayer
Ilona Csukáné (born 4 October 1971), known professionally as Friderika Bayer, is a Hungarian people, Hungarian singer. She is best known for Hungary in the Eurovision Song Contest 1994, representing Hungary at the Eurovision Song Contest 1994 with the song "Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet?", placing fourth. This remains Hungary's best-ever result in the contest. Early career In 1994 she won the Song Contest called by the Hungarian Television. The title of her winning song was: "Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet?" ("To whom can I tell my sins?"). Later that year, she represented Hungary in the Eurovision Song Contest 1994, staged in Dublin. This was the first time that Hungary, along with several other eastern European countries, participated in the contest. Hungary In The Eurovision Song Contest
Hungary has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 17 times since making its debut in . Hungary attempted to participate in but failed to qualify from ''Kvalifikacija za Millstreet'', a special qualifying competition set up for seven former Eastern Bloc countries. "Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet?" (; "To whom shall I tell my sins?") is a song by Hungarian singer Friderika Bayer. Written and composed by Szilveszter Jenei, it represented in the Eurovision Song Contest 1994 in Dublin. It marked Hungary's debut performance in the contest. Background and release The song was written and composed by Szilveszter Jenei. According to an interview with Bayer, Jenei had originally written the song for singer Sarolta Zalatnay, but it remained unreleased. The single was released on 27 April 1994 by EMI-Quint and also featured the song's English-language version ("Who Will Be There"), along with the tracks "Születésnap" ("Birthday") and "Bádogszív" ("Tin heart"). ''Táncdalfesztivál'' (literally ''Festival of dance music'') was series of Hungarian pop music competitions and exhibition shows, airing on the National Television from 1966 to 1994. Significance In a country with only one television channel, Táncdalfesztivál was the premier chance for young musicians to showcase their skills and become well known in the Hungary of the '60s. It was the starting point in the career of the era's most popular performers, like Kati Kovács, Pál Szécsi, Klári Katona or Zsuzsa Koncz.
