Hildesheim University
The University of Hildesheim (in German ''Universität Hildesheim'') is a public university located in Hildesheim. History Alfeld University of Education (Pädagogische Hochschule Alfeld) - University of Hildesheim The University of Hildesheim originated from the University of Education in Alfeld established in 1946. Because of the massive destruction of the city of Hildesheim during the Second World War, the university has been relocated in Alfeld, which remained mostly intact. Under its director Hans Abmeier, 110 students were registered in the university in its first academic year in 1946/47, and approximately 50 students for several years after that. The aim of the university was to provide teachers for the Catholic population in the British zone, without religion being a necessary condition for admission. Wolfgang Menzel (Pädagoge)
Wolfgang Menzel (21 June 179823 April 1873), German poet, critic and literary historian, was born at Waldenburg (Wałbrzych) in Silesia. Career overview He studied at the Breslau, Jena, and Bonn, and after living for some time in Aarau and Heidelberg finally settled in Stuttgart, where, from 1830 to 1838, he had a seat in the Württemberg Diet. Joachim Friedmann
Joachim Friedmann (born 8 October 1966) is a German screenwriter, comic author, and video game writer. Early life The son of a German lecturer at Sapporo University, Joachim Friedmann grew up in Hokkaidō before moving to Marburg, Germany in 1971. Career He initially studied Art History, English and Japanese Studies between 1989 and 1995 where he completed a course in Cultural Studies in Hildesheim. In 2016, he was awarded a doctorate with a thesis on transmedial narrative from the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). As a comic author, Friedmann published the story ''Seite 756'' with cartoonist Henk Wyniger, winning a prize at the Comic Salon in Erlangen, Germany. This was followed by a contract for Friedmann and Wyniger at the Carlsen publishing house with their own comic series based on the heroes Lais and Ben. Michael Gehler
Michael Gehler (born January 15, 1962 in Innsbruck) is an Austrian historian. He has been teaching at the German University of Hildesheim since 2006. Academic career Michael Gehler graduated from high school in Neustadt near Coburg/Germany, and studied history and German literature at the Leopold-Franzens-University Innsbruck/Austria. From 1992 to 1996 he was a Research Fellow of the Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research (FWF) Vienna. In 1999 Gehler habilitated at the University of Innsbruck and worked there until 2006 as an associate professor at the Institute for Contemporary History. In 2001/02 he was an Alexander von Humboldt fellow. Between 2004 and 2005 Gehler was also a visiting professor at the universities of Rostock (2004), Salzburg (2004/05) and Leuven (2005). Hanns-Josef Ortheil (born 5 November 1951, in Cologne) is a German author, scholar of German literature, and pianist. He has written many autobiographical and historical novels, some of which have been translated into 11 languages, according to WorldCat: French, Dutch, Modern Greek, Spanish, Chinese, Lithuanian, Japanese, Slovenian, and Russian. Biography He was born the fifth son in an educated family; his mother, Mary Catherine Ortheil, was a librarian and his father a railroad surveyor and director. Silvio Vietta
Silvio Vietta (born 7 August 1941, in Berlin) is a German scholar and professor emeritus of the University of Hildesheim. His work has concerned itself principally with German literature, philosophy and European cultural history. His main areas of research are the literatures of Expressionism and Romanticism, and Literary Modernity. He has also published on Martin Heidegger, with whom he had personal contact while a student, and Hans-Georg Gadamer.
