Henriëtte Pessers
Henriëtte Pessers (1899-1986) was a Dutch artist who painted in the Expressionist style. Biography Pessers was born on 3 January 1899 in Tilburg. She attended the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. Her teachers included Gustave De Smet, Jan van Delft, Antoon Derkinderen, , Constant Permeke, Henri Van Haelen, and . Her work was included in the 1939 exhibition and sale '' Onze Kunst van Heden'' (Our Art of Today) at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. In 1941 she married P.M.C. Jansen. Van Abbemuseum
The Van Abbemuseum () is a museum of modern and contemporary art in central Eindhoven, Netherlands, on the east bank of the Dommel River. Established in 1936, the museum is named after its founder, Henri van Abbe, who loved modern art and wanted to enjoy it in Eindhoven. As of 2010, the collection of the museum housed more than 2700 works of art, of which about 1000 were on paper, 700 were paintings, and 1000 were sculptures, installations and video works. The museum has an area of 9,825 m2 and holds one of the largest collections of paintings in the world by El Lissitzky. It also has works by Pablo Picasso and Wassily Kandinsky. Het Noordbrabants Museum is an art museum in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. History The Provincial Society for Arts and Sciences ''Het Provinciaal Genootschap van Kunsten en Wetenschappen in Noord-Brabant'' (Provincial society for arts and sciences) was founded in 1836. Some of the founding members were the governor of North Brabant Baron Andreas van den Bogaerde van Terbrugge, whose portrait is in the hall of the museum, and Dr. C.R. Hermans, president of the Latin school of 's-Hertogenbosch. The society soon had over 250 members. The purpose of the society was the promotion of arts and sciences. Heeze
Heeze is a town in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Heeze-Leende, about 9 km southeast of Eindhoven. The Heeze Castle is located east of the town. Onze Kunst van Heden (Contemporary Artists/Our Art of Today) was an exhibition held in the winter of 1939 through 1940 at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Due to the threat of invasion in the years leading up to World War II, the Netherlands' government stored many items from the Rijksmuseum's permanent collection. The resulting empty gallery space was utilized by contemporary Dutch artists to exhibit and sell their art. It was organized by the director of the Rijksmuseum . Constant Permeke
Constant Permeke (; 31 July 1886 – 4 January 1952) was a Belgium, Belgian painter and sculptor who is considered the leading figure of Flanders, Flemish expressionism. Biography Permeke was born in Antwerp but when he was six years old the family moved to Ostend. Here his father, a landscape painter, founded in 1893 the Municipal Museum of Arts of which he became the curator. Permeke studied at the Bruges Academy from 1903 to 1906 and then at the Academy in Ghent from 1906 to 1908. Here he met Frits Van den Berghe and the brothers Gustave De Smet and Léon De Smet. He was drafted into the Belgian army and served in a university company that was quartered in Sint-Martens-Latem. After his military service ended in March 1908, Permeke returned to Ostend where he roomed together with another artist, Gustave De Smet. Antonius Johannes (Antoon) Derkinderen ('s-Hertogenbosch, 20 December 1859 – Amsterdam, 2 November 1925) was a Dutch painter, Glass artist, Draftsman and designer of book covers. Life Early Years Antoon Derkinderen was born in 's-Hertogenbosch in 1859 to Antonius Henricus Derkinderen, gold- and silversmith, and Hendrica de Rooij. At the time the town was deeply Catholic and conservative. From 1874 to 1878 Derkinderen went to the daytime school for primary school teachers in 's-Hertogenbosch. The simple reason why Derkinderen went to this school, was that the education was solid and free of charge. He also became qualified to teach drawing and mathematics. Derkinderen would lead the choir of this school with very much enthusiasm. In May 1878 Derkinderen qualified as an assistant teacher for primary education.
