The Harbin Concert Hall () is a multi-venue performing arts centre in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China. The building is designed Japanese architect Arata Isozaki. Description The concert hall is situated in Harbin, hosting city of the renowned annual Harbin Summer Music Concert and a metropolis where China's first ever orchestra was established. The building serves as the home of the Harbin Symphony Orchestra. The concert hall was situated on Maimai Street, Daoli District before 2014. Concerts and performances In 2016, the third Alice & Eleonore Schoenfeld International String Competition hosted by the city of Harbin was held at the concert hall. Arata Isozaki
Arata Isozaki (磯崎 新, ''Isozaki Arata''; born 23 July 1931) is a Japanese architect, urban designer, and theorist from Ōita. He was awarded the RIBA Gold Medal in 1986 and the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2019. Biography Isozaki was born in Oita on the island of Kyushu and grew up in the era of postwar Japan. Isozaki completed his schooling at the Oita Prefecture Oita Uenogaoka High School (erstwhile Oita Junior High School). In 1954, he graduated from the University of Tokyo where he majored in Architecture and Engineering. This was followed by a doctoral program in architecture from the same university. Isozaki also worked under Kenzo Tange before establishing his own firm in 1963. Heilongjiang () formerly romanized as Heilungkiang, is a province in northeast China. The standard one-character abbreviation for the province is (). It was formerly romanized as "Heilungkiang". Harbin Symphony Orchestra (哈尔滨交响乐团; English translation, Harbin Symphony Orchestra) is a Chinese symphony orchestra based in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China. The orchestra's home is the Harbin Concert Hall. History The Harbin Symphony Orchestra (formerly Chinese Eastern Railway Club Symphony Orchestra) was created in 1908 on the Orchestra of Russian TRANS-AMUR Railway Corps Brigade after their performance of '' 1812 Overture'' which is considered as the first symphony concert in China. 2011, with the inauguration of the new Harbin Concert Hall, the orchestra moved in to the new venue and started to plan annual concert seasons. Zubin Mehta
Zubin Mehta (born 29 April 1936) is an Indian conductor of Western classical music. He is music director emeritus of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (IPO) and conductor emeritus of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Mehta's father was the founder of the Bombay Symphony Orchestra, and Mehta received his early musical education from him. When he was 18, he enrolled in the Vienna state music academy, from which he graduated after three years with a diploma as a conductor. He began winning international competitions and conducted the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic at age 21.
