Hyperlite Wake Mfg. is a manufacturing company that was established in 1991 in Redmond, Washington. The company manufactures a variety of water sports equipment including wakeboards, wakesurfs, vest, paddleboards and more. History In 1991 the first Hyperlite wakeboard was created, the board was manufactured under HO Sports company. H.O. Sports worked with surfboard shapers in Hawaii to design and build the first compression-molded neutral-buoyancy wakeboard, the Hyperlite. The first wakeboard was a directional 155cm board with a three fin setup and four "phasers" on the bottom of the board. Phasers are circular indents in the bottom of the board which are meant to soften the landing of the board. This innovation sparked the growth of what today is known as wakeboarding although it was referred to as skiboarding or skurfing at the time. Darin Shapiro
Darin Fane Shapiro (born October 25, 1973), nicknamed "The Scud" is an American professional Wakeboarding, wakeboarder from Orlando, Florida and the most successful rider in the history of the sport. Shapiro is well known for landing the first ever double-flip on a wakeboard, which he named the "Speedball" as well as many other tricks which laid the foundation for what wakeboarding is today. After a 10-year retirement from wakeboarding, Shapiro returned to competition at age 40, at the 2014 Wake Games contest at Orlando Watersports Complex in Orlando, Florida. Shapiro competed in his first pro contest on the island of Kauai at the age of 17. Shapiro appeared in many major wakeboard movies and influenced the development of the sport. Shaun Murray is an American four-time World champion wakeboarder, and the main character featured in Activision O2's video game '' Wakeboarding Unleashed Featuring Shaun Murray'' (originally under the working title ''Shaun Murray's Pro Wakeboarder'') developed by Shaba Games and released on June 3, 2003 for PlayStation 2, Xbox and Game Boy Advance. A PC port was developed by Beenox and published by Aspyr, releasing on December 22, 2003. Wakeboarding is a water sport in which the rider, standing on a wakeboard (a board with foot bindings), is towed behind a motorboat across its wake and especially up off the crest in order to perform aerial maneuvers. A hallmark of wakeboarding is the attempted performance of midair tricks. Wakeboarding was developed from a combination of water skiing, snowboarding and surfing techniques. Seafair is a summer festival in Seattle, Washington, that encompasses a wide variety of small neighborhood events leading up to several major citywide celebrations. Rusty Malinoski, known as Bone crusher, is a Canadian professional wakeboarder who was the first athlete to successfully land a 1080° in a wakeboard competition. While Parks Bonifay and Danny Harf had both been recorded landing 1080s before, Malinoski was the first one to do it during an official pro tour event. He is also the first wakeboarder to land a 1080 twice. Over the years, Malinoski has earned the nickname "Bone crusher" because of his powerful riding style.
