Hussein Nasser Walji
Hussein Nasser Walji (3 September 1920 – 17 December 2005) served as the president of Tanzania's Dar-as-Salaam Jamaat during the expansion of the community in the 1960s, and was involved in the establishment of Mehfil-e-Asgari. He was also a founding member of the Bilal Muslim Mission. Later, Hussein Nasser moved to Canada, and never returned to his native Tanzania. Personal life Little is known about Hussein Nasser's early life. His father died when he was young, so he worked in order to provide for his mother and younger brother. He married and had four daughters. He was in close association with many popular figures of his time, including Mulla Asghar, Sa'id Akhtar Rizvi, and Laurean Rugambwa. Bilal Muslim Mission
The Bilal Muslim Mission is an international Shi'a twelver organization, established in East Africa on December 25, 1964 through the efforts of Sayyid Saeed Akhtar Rizvi, Hussein Nasser Walji and other dedicated volunteers. The organization is named after Bilal ibn Ribah, the famous Ethiopian Sahabi. Sa'id Akhtar Rizvi
Sayyid Sa‘eed Akhtar Rizvi ( ur, سيد سعيد اختر رضوي) (1927–2002) was an Indian born, Twelver Shī‘ah scholar, who promoted Islam in East Africa. He was given authorizations ( ar, اجازة) by fourteen Grand Ayatullahs for riwayah, Qazawah, and Umur-e-Hasbiyah. Biography Rizvi was born in Ushri, Saran district, Bihar state, India, in 1927. His father was Sayyid Abul Hassan Rizvi and who was also a Hakim (Yunani medicine doctor) and a religious scholar. He had five sons and two daughters. His second eldest son, Sayyid Muhammad Rizvi, lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is the Imam of the Islamic Shia Ithna‘asheri Jamaat (ISIJ) of Toronto. He spoke and wrote in Urdu, English, Arabic, Persian, Swahili and was also familiar with Hindi and Gujarati. Laurean Rugambwa
Laurean Rugambwa (July 12, 1912 – December 8, 1997) was the first modern native African Cardinal of the Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of Dar es Salaam from 1968 to 1992, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1960.
