Hulger
{{Unreferenced, date=October 2022 Hulger is a British company that designs electronic equipment. It was formed from Pokia after a trademark dispute with Nokia by Nicolas Roope and Michael-George Hemus. The company founded on the idea of old telephone handsets plugged into cellphones but soon diversified, adding voice over IP applications. Whilst Pokia handsets were modded existing designs, Hulger handsets are newly commissioned products, created specially for use. In late 2005 two Bluetooth models allowed wireless use with both cellphones and PCs/Macs. The company founded in London, England in 2005 after extensive media coverage of its previous incarnation Pokia, a prototype project dating back to its inception in 2002. The first production model was available to buy on 1 June 2005, and since then a number of new designs have launched under the label. Nicolas Roope (born 26 February 1972 in Singapore, Singapore) is a British industrial and digital media designer and entrepreneur. Education and career Roope received Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Sculpture from Liverpool John Moores University. Roope's career combines his interest in art, design, sustainability and technology into various commercial and artistic pursuits. His designs have been included iMoMA Cooper-Hewitt collection and The V&A. Plumen
Plumen is a designer low energy lighting company based in London, UK. The Plumen 001, their debut product, is a designer low energy compact fluorescent light. The design of the Plumen 001 lightbulb is result of collaboration between the Hulger team and designer Samuel Wilkinson. A prototype of the Plumen 001 has been added to MOMA permanent design collection, and has won Brit Insurance Design Awards 2011. The Plumen 001 bulb launched in September 2010 and was joined by the Plumen 002 that was launched on Kickstarter in January 2014. Plumen also produces accessories and shades to be used with their light bulb designs, establishing Plumen as an efficient designer lighting brand that sells in over 75 countries worldwide. Energy-saving Light Bulb
A compact fluorescent lamp (CFL), also called compact fluorescent light, energy-saving light and compact fluorescent tube, is a fluorescent lamp designed to replace an incandescent light bulb; some types fit into light fixtures designed for incandescent bulbs. The lamps use a tube that is curved or folded to fit into the space of an incandescent bulb, and a compact electronic ballast in the base of the lamp. Compared to general-service incandescent lamps giving the same amount of visible light, CFLs use one-fifth to one-third the electric power, and last eight to fifteen times longer. A CFL has a higher purchase price than an incandescent lamp, but can save over five times its purchase price in electricity costs over the lamp's lifetime. Like all fluorescent lamps, CFLs contain toxic mercury, which complicates their disposal. In many countries, governments have banned the disposal of CFLs together with regular garbage.
