Hubie Smith
Arthur Hubert "Hubie" Smith is a basketball coach in Tennessee. He has coached at three colleges as well as boys and girls at three high schools, winning seven state championships: two with girls and 5 with boys. Player Smith played high school basketball for Harding Academy in Memphis from 1976 to 1979. He ranks 4th all time in the state of Tennessee for career free throw percentage at 86.3%. Smith played both college basketball and golf at Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. In 2006 he was named to the Harding Hall of Fame. He was first team AIC in basketball, the school recordholder in assists, both overall (544) and season average (7.0, 1981). Coaching career Smith worked as a graduate assistant coach at Memphis State University in the 1983–1984 season for coach Dana Kirk. Brentwood Academy is a coeducational Christian independent college preparatory school located in Brentwood, Tennessee, for grades 6–12. History The charter of Brentwood Academy was signed on November 20, 1969, after ten acres of land on Granny White Pike was gifted by Tom P. Kennedy, Jr. Brentwood Academy was among a wave of private schools formed in response the court ordered desegregation of public schools. Brentwood Academy's leaders claimed the school was established to provide a sound, Christian education in a safer environment, but the sociologist Jennifer Dyer has argued that the school's stated objectives were simply a "guise" for the school's actual objective of allowing white parents to avoid enrolling their children in racially integrated public schools. Harding Bisons Men's Basketball
The Harding Bisons are the athletic teams that represent Harding University, located in Searcy, Arkansas, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Bisons compete as members of the Great American Conference for all 16 varsity sports. Harding began in the Gulf South Conference in 2000 before moving to the newly formed Great American Conference (GAC) in 2011. In the GAC's first season, Harding won conference championships in women's cross country and women's golf and placed second in the conference's all-sports trophy standings. Darius Garland
Darius Kinnard Garland (born January 26, 2000) is an American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Vanderbilt Commodores. Born in Gary, Indiana, Garland is the son of former professional basketball player Winston Garland. Garland attended Brentwood Academy in high school, joining the varsity basketball team in eighth grade and leaving as a four-time state champion and three-time Tennessee Mr. Basketball winner. TSSAA
The Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA), along with the affiliated Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association (TMSAA), is an organization which administers junior and senior high school sporting events in Tennessee. The TSSAA (commonly pronounced "Tee double-S double-A") is the only high school athletic organization in the United States to have a five-sport, Olympic-style spring sport championship tournament, known as ''Spring Fling'', for baseball, softball, track and field, team and individual tennis, and soccer.
