Brentwood Academy is a coeducational Christian independent college preparatory school located in Brentwood, Tennessee, for grades 6–12. History The charter of Brentwood Academy was signed on November 20, 1969, after ten acres of land on Granny White Pike was gifted by Tom P. Kennedy, Jr. Brentwood Academy was among a wave of private schools formed in response the court ordered desegregation of public schools. Brentwood Academy's leaders claimed the school was established to provide a sound, Christian education in a safer environment, but the sociologist Jennifer Dyer has argued that the school's stated objectives were simply a "guise" for the school's actual objective of allowing white parents to avoid enrolling their children in racially integrated public schools. Despite the school's claim that it was not founded for the purpose of racial segregation, it did not enroll any Black students until 1974, and did not have a Black graduate until 1980. Derek Barnett
Derek Anthony Barnett (born June 25, 1996) is an American football defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Tennessee, and was drafted by the Eagles with the 14th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Early years Barnett attended Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tennessee. As a senior, he had 60 tackles (18 for loss) and 5.5 sacks. He was rated by the Rivals.com recruiting network as a four-star recruit. Jason Mathews
Samuel Jason Mathews (born February 9, 1971) is a former American football offensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). He played for the Indianapolis Colts (1994–1997) and the Tennessee Oilers/Titans (1998–2004). Early years Jason Mathews attended Bridge City High School in Bridge City, Texas, where he lettered in football, baseball, and track. After his graduation in 1989, he attended Brigham Young University for one year, playing defensive lineman. He spent his next three years of college eligibility at Texas A&M University. George Michael MacIntyre (born March 14, 1965) is an American football coach. He is the head coach at FIU. MacIntyre served as the head football coach at San Jose State University from 2010 to 2013 and the University of Colorado Boulder from 2013 to 2018. MacIntyre began his coaching career in 1990 as a graduate assistant at Georgia. From 1992 to 2002, MacIntyre held various assistant coaching positions at Davidson, UT Martin, Temple, and Ole Miss. The Ole Miss Rebels football program represents the University of Mississippi, also known as "Ole Miss". San Diego Chargers
