Howrah–Bardhaman Chord
The Howrah–Bardhaman chord is a broad-gauge rail line connecting Howrah and Bardhaman. The railway line operates in Howrah, Hooghly and Purba Bardhaman districts in the state of West Bengal. It is part of the Howrah–Gaya–Delhi line, Howrah–Allahabad–Mumbai line and the Kolkata Suburban Railway system. History The Howrah–Bardhaman chord, a shorter link to Bardhaman from Howrah than the Howrah–Bardhaman main line, was constructed in 1917. In 1932, the Calcutta chord line was built over the then Willingdon Bridge (now Vivekananda Setu) joining Dum Dum with Dankuni. Dhaniakhali station on the Howrah–Bardhaman chord line was added in December 2003. Electrification Howrah–Bardhaman chord was electrified in 1964–66. Vivekananda Setu
Vivekananda Setu (also called Willingdon Bridge and Bally Bridge) is a bridge over the Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. It links the city of Howrah, at Bally, to Kolkata, at Dakshineswar. Completed on 1931, it is a multispan truss bridge and was built to primarily to provide direct road and rail connectivity between the Calcutta Port and the major railhead at Howrah railway station on the West bank of the Hooghly River. It is long having 9 spans in total. The famous Dakshineswar Kali Temple is situated on the banks of the Hooghly River near the bridge. The bridge is one of the four bridges linking Howrah and Kolkata. A new road bridge, the Nivedita Setu, was constructed downstream in 2007 due to weakening of the Vivekanada Setu caused by its ageing. The Howrah–New Jalpaiguri ''Shatabdi Express'' is a Shatabdi class train of Indian Railways connecting Kolkata and Siliguri, West Bengal's two most important cities. It is the second fastest train after Howrah–New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express in the Howrah – New Jalpaiguri section covering a distance of 561 km (chargeable distance may be different but it is same when it is being written) in a span of about 8 hours. Liluah (also spelled Lillooah) is a neighbourhood in Howrah city of Howrah district, West Bengal, India. It is a part of the area covered by Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). Kamarkundu is a railway station at the crossing of the Howrah–Bishnupur and the Howrah–Bardhaman chord lines. It serves Kamarkundu in Hooghly district in the Indian state of West Bengal. The Bankura–Masagram line is an Electrified broad-gauge rail line connecting Bankura town and Masagram. The railway line operates in Bankura and Purba Bardhaman districts in the Indian state of West Bengal. It falls under Adra railway division of South Eastern Railway Zone of Indian Railways. History The old Narrow Gauge route of Bankura Damodar Railway(closed in 1965) was planned to be revived by South Eastern Railway of Indian Railways in 1998 as a Broad Gauge line.
