Howard Hadden Halladay
Howard Hadden Halladay (June 15, 1875 – January 23, 1952) was a farmer, insurance agent, and Canadian federal politician. He served as a member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1921, sitting as a Unionist candidate in government. He also served as a municipal politician from 1913 to 1918 as mayor of Hanna, Alberta. The House of Commons of Canada (french: Chambre des communes du Canada) is the lower house of the Parliament of Canada. Bow River (electoral District)
Bow River is a federal electoral district in southern Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1968, from 1979 to 1988 and since 2015. This riding was first created in 1914 from Macleod riding. It was abolished in 1966 when it was redistributed into Calgary North, Crowfoot, Palliser and Rocky Mountain ridings. It was re-created in 1976 from parts of Crowfoot, Lethbridge, Palliser and Rocky Mountain ridings. It was abolished in 1987 when it was redistributed into Calgary North, Calgary Northeast, Calgary West, Crowfoot, Lethbridge, Macleod, Red Deer and Wild Rose ridings. It was re-created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and was legally defined in the 2013 representation order. Edward Joseph Garland
Edward Joseph Garland (March 16, 1887 – December 19, 1974) was a farmer, diplomat and a Canadian federal politician. He was born in Dublin, Ireland and attended Belvedere College and Trinity College Dublin. Political career Garland, an active member of the United Farmers of Alberta, was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1921 Canadian federal election as a candidate for the Progressive Party of Canada. He defeated two other candidates in a landslide to win his first term in office. A founding member of the radical Ginger Group of MPs, he stood for re-election in the 1925 Canadian federal election, he was barely re-elected in a hotly contested election to win his second term in office. Hanna is a town in east-central Alberta, Canada. History The town was first settled in 1912 and was incorporated in 1914. The 1917 Canadian federal election (sometimes referred to as the khaki election) was held on December 17, 1917, to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 13th Parliament of Canada. Described by historian Michael Bliss as the "most bitter election in Canadian history", it was fought mainly over the issue of conscription (see Conscription Crisis of 1917). The election resulted in Prime Minister Sir Robert Borden's Unionist government elected with a strong majority and the largest percentage of the popular vote for any party in Canadian history. The previous election had been held in 1911 and was won by Borden's Conservatives. Normally, there is a constitutional requirement that Parliament last no longer than five years, which would have resulted in an election in 1916. Daniel Harcourt Galbraith (November 30, 1878 – October 30, 1968) was a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1921 to 1930 sitting with the United Farmers caucus in government. Early life Galbraith was born in 1878 in Guelph, Ontario.
