Horacio Matarasso
Horacio Matarasso (born January 6, 1967) is an ornithologist and leader of South American bird watchers. Biography Born in Buenos Aires in 1967, where he lived until 1995. He joined Aves Argentinas in 1984 and studied Biology at the University of Buenos Aires, specialized in Ornithology. He is currently member of the team of Ibera Birding Lodge, consultor of Fundación Humedales, representative of Wetlands International in Argentina, and director of Buenos Dias Birding and make trips to study birds in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Brazil and other countries of the continent. Contributions to birdwatching Since 1996 to 2014 he lived in northern Patagonia, where was director of the Centre for Ornithology Neuquén from Universidad Nacional del Comahue. Patagonia () refers to a geographical region that encompasses the southern end of South America, governed by Argentina and Chile. The South American Birdwatching Fair is an annual event for birdwatchers, held every year in a different country of the continent. It is described as the birders' principal meeting in South America, with people from all over the world. Enicognathus Leptorhynchus
The slender-billed parakeet, also called the long-billed parakeet (''Enicognathus leptorhynchus''), is a medium size South American parrot. It belongs to the smaller long-tailed Arinae ( macaws and parakeets). It is known by the local common name ''choroy''. Distribution and habitat The slender-billed parakeet is endemic to southern Chile. Its natural habitat is temperate forests, and its range stretches from central Chile, at the level of Mount Aconcagua, down to the island of Chiloé and the continental section of the country. The birds are social and flock together in large numbers. They are not especially afraid of humans, and the sighting of flocks in urban areas is not uncommon. Mimus Thenca
The Chilean mockingbird (''Mimus thenca''), locally known as ''tenca'', is a species of bird in the family Mimidae. It primarily inhabits Chile's northern half, though there are sightings in Argentina. Taxonomy and systematics The Chilean mockingbird is monotypic. Description The Chilean mockingbird is long and weighs . The male is somewhat larger than the female. Adults have a wide whitish supercilium . Their crown, neck, and back are brownish gray with darker streaks and their rump browner. The wings and tail are blackish. The wings show two narrow bars when folded. The outermost tail feathers have white edges and most of the others have white tips. The throat is whitish, the chest brownish gray, the belly dirty white, and the flanks buffy with blackish streaks.
