Hope Island Resort Tennis Centre
The Hope Island Resort Tennis Centre is a tennis venue located at the corner of Hope Island Road and Activa Way, Hope Island, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It has hosted a number of international tennis tournaments. When Brisbane's major tennis centre, Milton Courts, closed in 1990s due to financial losses, the Hope Island Resort Tennis Centre became increasingly used for major tennis events in Queensland. When the Queensland Government opened their new Queensland Tennis Centre at Tennyson in Brisbane in 2008, major events relocated to the new facility, while other events relocated to the Royal Pines tennis centre. Pat Cash sold his interest in the centre in 2008 to Tennis Asia, a company based in Hong Kong, from 2008 the centre has been leased to a number of local lease holders. The association with Pat Cash was lost in 2010 when the lease holder Chris Steele decided not to renew the relationship. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The ''Gold Coast Bulletin'' is a daily newspaper serving Australia's Gold Coast region. It is published as ''The Gold Coast Bulletin'' on weekdays and the ''Weekend Bulletin'' at weekends. Sport on the Gold Coast has a rich history. As a popular tourist destination leisure sports like Golf, but most particularly sports associated with its famous beaches, have always been popular. A number of surf clubs line Gold Coasts beaches, who host a variety of swimming and athletic events collected into surf carnivals along with competitions evolved from methods of surf life saving. The Brisbane International established in 2009 is a professional tennis tournament played on outdoor hardcourts in Brisbane, Queensland in Australia. It is a WTA Premier tournament of the WTA Tour and was part of the ATP World Tour 250 series of the ATP World Tour until 2019, when it was dropped from the ATP Tour. The tournament is held annually in January at the Queensland Tennis Centre just before the first Grand Slam tournament of the season, the Australian Open (part of the Australian Open Series).
