History The area was named after colonial aristocrat Captain Louis Hope, who in 1867 was granted the island then known as Boykambil near the mouth of the Coomera River in recognition of his contribution in developing the sugar industry in Queensland. After arriving in Moreton Bay in 1848, Hope spent the next 20 years building sugar plantations on the edge of Moreton Bay. The development of a sugar plantation called ‘Rockholm’ on the Island was largely undertaken by the Grimes Family. Peter William Thomson (23 August 1929 – 20 June 2018) was an Australian professional golfer. He won the Open Championship five times between 1954 and 1965. Thomson is the only golfer in the modern era to win a major three times in succession – The Open in 1954, 1955 and 1956. Life Thomson was born in Brunswick, a northern suburb of Melbourne, Australia. Coomera Railway Station
Coomera railway station is located on the Gold Coast line in Queensland, Australia. It serves the Gold Coast suburb of Coomera. History Coomera station opened on 25 February 1996 when the Gold Coast line opened from Beenleigh to Helensvale. A track duplication to the south of the station, linking with Helensvale, was completed in October 2017. The new track provides additional capacity in time for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Louis Hope
Louis Hope (19 October 1817 – 15 August 1894) was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Early years Hope was born in Linlithgow, Scotland in 1817 to General John Hope, 4th Earl of Hopetoun, and his wife Louisa Dorothea (née Wedderburn). After finishing his education he joined the Coldstream Guards, rising to the rank of Captain. In 1843 he arrived in New South Wales. Hope moved to Moreton Bay in 1848 and purchased land at Ormiston in 1853 where he established his Ormiston House Estate. In 1854 he purchased land which eventually equaled 364 housing lots at Norman Park. That same year, along with Robert Ramsay, he took up Kilcoy Station, eventually becoming its sole owner in 1863.
