The Hong Kong Trail, opened in 1985, is a long-distance footpath from Victoria Peak to Big Wave Bay on Hong Kong Island. Pok Fu Lam Reservoir
Pok Fu Lam Reservoir, formerly known as the Pokefulum Reservoir, is the first reservoir in Hong Kong. It is located in a valley in Pok Fu Lam. History Before the completion of the reservoir in 1863, the people in the city got their water by nearby streams or wells. These methods however were unable to support the rapid growth of the population since 1841. Diseases were caused by polluted water. The Hong Kong Government needed an urgent solution to the problem. Thus, it prepared a reward of 1,000 pounds to anyone who provided a solution to disease on 14 October 1859. The colonial government also allocated a budget of £25,000 for the project. Dragon's Back
The Dragon's Back () is a mountain ridge in southeastern Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong that passes through Shek O Peak. It lies within the Shek O Country Park. In 2019, the Dragon's Back Trail was selected by CNN as one of the world's 23 best trails. Dragon's Back is part of Stage 8 of the Hong Kong Trail. To Tei Wan
Tai Tam Bay () is a bay in the Tai Tam area, in the southeastern part of Hong Kong Island, in the Southern District of Hong Kong. Geography Tai Tam Bay cover a marine area of about 8 km². It comprises a narrow inlet to the inner bay area, named Tai Tam Harbour, as well as a much wider middle and outer bay. While the average water depth within Tai Tam Harbour is about 3 m, the water depth increases from 5 m in the middle bay to 9 m in the outer bay. The width of the opening of the bay is about 2.2 km. Tai Tam Road
Tai Tam Road in Hong Kong links the districts of Chai Wan and Stanley on Hong Kong Island. This road connects Chai Wan Road, the northern end of Shek O Road, Turtle Cove, Tai Tam and Stanley. The Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir's dam constitutes a section of the road that is particularly narrow. The dam used to feature two-way traffic, which was problematic when buses crossed ways with other bigger vehicles, causing heavy congestion. On the 2nd of December 2018, a new traffic light system was installed on the 400m dam, fixing the congesting. An old bridge, Pak Chai Old Bridge, built in 1845, is also situated near the road, it was the predecessor of the current New Bridge in Tai Tam. Mount Parker is the second-highest peak () on Hong Kong Island, after Victoria Peak (). It is the 40th highest peak of the territory of Hong Kong. Wong Nai Chung Gap () is a geographic gap in the middle of Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. The gap is between Mount Nicholson and Jardine's Lookout behind Wong Nai Chung (Happy Valley). Five roads meet at the gap: Wong Nai Chung Gap Road, Tai Tam Reservoir Road, Repulse Bay Road, Deep Water Bay Road and Black's Link. It is a strategic passage between the north and south of the island, though less so today since the opening of the Aberdeen Tunnel. Lonely Planet is a travel guide book publisher. Founded in Australia in 1973, the company has printed over 150 million books. History Early years Lonely Planet was founded by married couple Maureen and Tony Wheeler.
