Home Farm, Brodick
Home Farm was the estate farm for Brodick Castle. It now houses a series of tourist enterprises including a cheese shop and Arran Aromatics. This was the site of the curiously named Khartoum which was a kind of shanty town. It appears that makeshift towns all over Britain were given exotic names in a kind of ironic way. Opposite Home Farm is Murchie Sand Pit, which is Arran's largest lowland pond (or loch). Brodick Castle
Brodick Castle is a castle situated outside the port of Brodick on the Isle of Arran, an island in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland. It was previously a seat of the Dukes of Hamilton, but is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. The castle is a Category A listed building and the grounds are included in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland. History Early and High Medieval A fortress has been on the site since at least the fifth century, when Gaelic invaders from Antrim expanded their kingdom of Dál Riata. By the tenth century Norse influence had grown, and Arran formed part of Sudreys or '' Súðreyjar'', administered either from Dublin or Orkney (Nordreys or ''Norðreyjar'') and nominally under the control of the King of Norway. Khartoum
Khartoum or Khartum ( ; ar, الخرطوم, Al-Khurṭūm, din, Kaartuɔ̈m) is the capital of Sudan. With a population of 5,274,321, its metropolitan area is the largest in Sudan. It is located at the confluence of the White Nile, flowing north from Lake Victoria, and the Blue Nile, flowing west from Lake Tana in Ethiopia.
