Sallie Holley
Sarah (Sallie) Holley (February 17, 1818 - January 12, 1893) served as an educator to African Americans during the mid-1800s, becoming an avid member of the American Anti-Slavery Society. Specifically, Holley worked closely with Caroline Putnam to establish the Holley School, which still stands today. Early life Born in Canandaigua, New York, Holley was interested in education and reading from a young age. In 1831, she attended boarding school in Lyons, NY, where she there attended her first anti-slavery lecture. Yet while this was Holley's first official lecture, it was far from her first exposure to the subject. Myron Holley
Myron Holley (April 29, 1779 Salisbury, Connecticut, Salisbury, Litchfield County, Connecticut – March 4, 1841 Rochester, New York, Rochester, Monroe County, New York) was an American politician who had a large part in the construction of the Erie Canal. Life Holley was the son of Luther Holley (1752–1824) and Sarah Dakin Holley (1755–1830). He graduated in 1799 from Williams College. He was a member from Ontario County, New York, Ontario County of the New York State Assembly in 1816 and 1820-21. He worked with DeWitt Clinton to convince the State Legislature to finance the construction of the Erie Canal. He was among the Erie Canal Commissioners appointed in 1816 to supervise the construction and was chosen Treasurer of the Canal Commission. He oversaw the construction of the canal in-person living with the workers for eight years. Michael S. Holley (born February 26, 1970) is an American television and radio sports commentator, sports reporter and author. He formerly wrote columns for the ''Boston Globe'', ''Chicago Tribune'', ''The Plain Dealer'', and '' Akron Beacon Journal''. Career While working for the ''Akron Beacon Journal'' in 1993, Holley was one of several reporters who worked on a project studying race relations in Northeastern Ohio. Mary Austin Holley (1784–1846) was an American historical writer best known as the author of the first known English-language history of Texas, ''Texas'' (1833), expanded in 1836 into ''History of Texas''. She was a cousin of Stephen F. Austin, who arranged for Holley to receive a land grant on Galveston Bay. Although Holley visited Texas five times (in 1831, 1835, 1838, 1840, and 1843), she was never able to afford to move there.
