Hitt, Missouri
Hitt is an unincorporated community in northwest Scotland County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The community is on Missouri Route B eight miles northwest of Memphis. The Missouri-Iowa border is 2.3 miles north of the community. History A variant name was "Billupsville". A post office called Billiopsville was established in 1859, the name was changed to Hitt in 1860, and the post office closed in 1914. The present name honors Robert R. Scotland County, Missouri
Scotland County is a County (United States), county in northeastern Missouri. As of the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, its population was 4,716, making it Missouri's seventh-least populous county. Its county seat is Memphis, Missouri, Memphis. The county was organized on January 29, 1841, and named for Scotland. History The Missouri General Assembly organized Scotland County on January 29, 1841. At first its boundaries contained all the land now known as Knox County, Missouri, Knox County as well, but in 1843 the General Assembly divided it off. Stephen W. B. Robert Lee Rayford (February 3, 1953 – May 15 1969), sometimes identified as Robert R. due to his age, was an American teenager from Missouri who has been suggested to represent the earliest confirmed case of HIV/AIDS in North America based on evidence which was published in 1988 in which the authors claimed that medical evidence indicated that he was "infected with a virus closely related or identical to human immunodeficiency virus type 1." Rayford died of pneumonia, but his other symptoms baffled the doctors who treated him. A study published in 1988 reported the detection of antibodies against HIV. Results of testing for HIV genetic material were reported once at a scientific conference in Australia in 1999; however, the data has never been published in a peer-reviewed medical or scientific journal.
