Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by a virus, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). R2-D2 () or Artoo-Detoo is a fictional robot character in the ''Star Wars'' franchise created by George Lucas. He has appeared in ten of the eleven theatrical ''Star Wars'' films to date. At various points throughout the course of the films, R2, an astromech droid, is a friend to C-3PO, Padmé Amidala, Anakin Skywalker, Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Animatronic
Animatronics refers to mechatronic puppets. They are a modern variant of the automaton and are often used for the portrayal of characters in films and in theme park attractions. It is a multidisciplinary field integrating puppetry, anatomy and mechatronics. Animatronic figures can be implemented with both computer and human control, including teleoperation. Motion actuators are often used to imitate muscle movements and create realistic motions. Figures are usually encased in body shells and flexible skins made of hard and soft plastic materials and finished with colors, hair, feathers and other components to make them more lifelike. An android is a humanoid robot or other artificial being often made from a flesh-like material. Historically, androids were completely within the domain of science fiction and frequently seen in film and television, but advances in robot technology now allow the design of functional and realistic humanoid robots. A robot is a machine—especially one programmable by a computer—capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically. A robot can be guided by an external control device, or the control may be embedded within. Roy Lubove
Roy Lubove (September 3, 1934 – February 17, 1995) was an American social historian. He was professor of social welfare and history at the University of Pittsburgh and was the author of a number of social histories. Biography Lubove was born in Jackson Heights, Queens on September 3, 1934, to a family of Polish immigrants. He matriculated at the Bronx High School of Science and earned his bachelor's degree from Columbia College in 1956. He earned his doctorate from Cornell University in 1960 under historian David Brion Davis, and joined the faculty of Harvard University that year. His childhood experience living in densely developed Jackson Heights influenced his lifelong interest in studying the structure of neighborhoods, urban planning, and landscape design, and his upbringing during the Great Depression inspired him to study poverty and social welfare. Tasso Katselas
Tasso Katselas (born 1927) is an architect in the United States known for his modernist concrete buildings especially in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His work includes Pittsburgh International Airport, public housing, and mansions. His firm was known as Tasso Katselas Associates and became TKA when he semi-retired in 2005 while continuing to consult for the firm. Katselas' parents immigrated to the United States from Greece. His work includes public housing and civic structures. He grew up in East Pittsburgh and studied architecture at the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon). He taught at Kansas State College and designed a chapel for the Fallingwater property after Frank Lloyd Wright recommended him to Liliane Kaufmann for the design of a chapel but she died and the project was never built. Robert Wilburn
Robert C. Wilburn is the director of Carnegie Mellon University Heinz College's Washington, DC campus as well as a Distinguished Service Professor at the college. Prior to this position he was the first president and Chief Executive Officer of the Gettysburg Foundation. He served as president and CEO of the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh and as president of Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. Under his leadership, the number of customers, members, donors, and volunteers increased sharply within each organization. The merger of the Buhl Science Center with the Carnegie Institute and the construction of a new $40 million Carnegie Science Center are among his notable accomplishments.
