High Wycombe Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club located in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. The first XV currently play in Southern Counties North, although the club did play in the national divisions in the first years of league rugby. League history When the league system was established in 1987, High Wycombe was placed in South West Division One, then the fifth tier of league rugby. After finishing as runners-up in the first to seasons of league rugby, the club won promotion to Courage Clubs 4 South for the 1991/92 season. The 1993 restructure saw the club placed in Courage League Division 5 South and played in that division throughout its three season existence. However when they were placed back in National 4 South, they were immediately relegated and were relegated again the following season. The Buckinghamshire Rugby Football Union is the sports governing body, governing body for the sport of rugby union in the county of Buckinghamshire in England. The union is the constituent body of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) for Buckinghamshire, and administers and organises rugby union clubs and competitions in the county. It also administers the Buckinghamshire county rugby representative teams. The union was founded at a meeting at High Wycombe on 16 July 1949 during a drinking session at one of the founders house. High Wycombe, often referred to as Wycombe ( ), is a market town in Buckinghamshire, England. Lying in the valley of the River Wye surrounded by the Chiltern Hills, it is west-northwest of Charing Cross in London, south-southeast of Aylesbury, southeast of Oxford, northeast of Reading and north of Maidenhead. Counties 1 Southern North (formerly known as Southern Counties North) is a division at level 7 of the English rugby union system. When league rugby first began in 1987 it was a single league known as Southern Counties but since 1996 the division was split into two regional leagues - Southern Counties North and Southern Counties South. Regional 1 South West (formerly South West Premier and National League 3 South West) is a level five league in the English rugby union system. It is one of six leagues at this level. When this division began in 1987 it was known as South West Division 1. The format of the league was changed at the beginning of the 2009–10 season following reorganisation by the Rugby Football Union, and the name change from National League 3 to South West Premier was introduced for the 2017–18 season by the RFU in order to lessen confusion for what is a series of regional leagues. 1991–92 Courage National 4 South
The 1991–92 Courage National 4 South was the fifth full season of rugby union within the fourth tier of the English league system, currently known as National League 2 South. At the end of the campaign, Havant finished as champions, just edging Hampshire rivals Basingstoke by virtue of a better for/against record to gain promotion to the 1992–93 National Division 3. At the other end of the table Ealing and Sidcup finished in the relegation zone. Of the two Sidcup put up the better fight but ended up being relegated in 12th place despite being tied with two other clubs on 6 points each due to a poorer for/against record. Courage League Division 5
Courage Division 5 was a short lived English rugby union competition created as a tier 5 regional competition divided into Courage Division 5 North and Courage Division 5 South. In 1993 the RFU decided to change the whole league structure, with a new national league (Courage Division League 4) replacing the old North / South regional system which would become the aforementioned Courage Division 5. This led to twelve out of thirteen teams in both Courage Division 4 regions dropping into Courage Division 5 while the league winners joined Courage Division 4 along with eight teams from Courage Division 3. The 1996–97 Courage League Division 4 South was the tenth full season of rugby union within the fourth tier of the English league system, currently known as National League 2 South, and the last using the name Division 4 South. Changes to the league structure by the RFU at the start of the season saw Courage League 4 revert to two regional divisions ( Courage League Division 4 North and Courage League Division 4 South), while the regional leagues below (Courage League Division 5) was split back into regional leagues - North 1, Midlands 1, London 1 and South West 1.
