Hesa Awal Kohistan District is a new district, created from the bigger Kohistan District in Kapisa Province, Afghanistan. The district center is Kohistan. The population is 60,300 (2006). Kohistan, also transliterated Kuhistan, Kuhiston ( fa, کوہستان 'mountainous land'), is the northern district of Kapisa province, Afghanistan. In productive agricultural seasons the area has an abundance of sweet mulberries, grapes, apricots and pomegranates. Yearly thousands of visitors spend their weekends in its picnic place of Sayaad along the Panjshir river that flows into Sourubi lake. Kapisa (Pashto/Dari: ) is the smallest of Afghanistan's thirty-four provinces and is located in the north-east of the country. It has an estimated population of 496,840 people and an area of , making it the most densely populated province apart after Kabul Province. Hesa Duwum Kohistan District is a district in the southern part of Kapisa Province, Afghanistan. The center is the village of Kishiktan. The population is 39,900 (2006) and is mostly composed of Tajik. The district is famous for its sweet mulberries, grapes, apricots and pomegranates. Yearly, hundreds of visitors spend their weekends along the Kohistan river that flows into Surobi lake. During the war against USSR, Kohistani was one of the headquarters for Mujahidin.
