Heribert Esser
Heribert Esser (born 12 January 1929) is a German conductor and academic teacher. In 1962–1986, he held the position of director of music at Braunschweig, and the Elder Chair of Music at the Elder Conservatorium of Music of the University of Adelaide, South Australia, from 1987 to 1994. Most recently he conducted the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Halle. Life Esser was born in 1929 as the son of civil servant Edmund Esser and his wife Gertrud, ''née'' Krahforst, in Rheinhausen (today Duisburg). After obtaining his Abitur in 1947 at the Städtisch mathematisch-naturwissenschaftliches Gymnasium Rheinhausen, he studied until 1952 at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, and German and musicology at the University of Cologne. His conducting teacher was Günter Wand. He also attended a masterclass with Karl Hermann Pillney and the chamber music seminars of Maurits Frank. Kapellmeister
(, also , ) from German ''Kapelle'' (chapel) and ''Meister'' (master)'','' literally "master of the chapel choir" designates the leader of an ensemble of musicians. Originally used to refer to somebody in charge of music in a chapel, the term has evolved considerably in its meaning and is today used for denoting the leader of a musical ensemble, often smaller ones used for TV, radio, and theatres. Historical usage In German-speaking countries during the approximate period 1500–1800, the word often designated the director of music for a monarch or nobleman. Wolf-Dieter Hauschild
Wolf-Dieter Hauschild (born 6 September 1937 in Greiz), is a German conductor, choirmaster, artistic director, composer, harpsichordist and university lecturer. After working for the Berliner Rundfunk from 1971, he was principal conductor of the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra and the MDR Rundfunkchor, Rundfunkchor Leipzig from 1978 to 1985. In 1984 he was still awarded the National Prize of the German Democratic Republic, but in 1985 he came to terms with the GDR authorities and moved to the FRG. In Stuttgart he was appointed General Music Director and helped the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra there to national recognition. In 1991 he went to Essen, where he was also opera director of the Aalto Theater from 1992 to 1997. In the 2000s he returned to the new states of Germany and conducted the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Halle and the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock. Heinrich Schenker
Heinrich Schenker (19 June 1868 – 14 January 1935) was a Galician-born Austrian music theorist whose writings have had a profound influence on subsequent musical analysis. His approach, now termed Schenkerian analysis, was most fully explained in a three volume series entitled ''Neue musikalische Theorien und Phantasien'' (''New Musical Theories and Phantasies''), which included ''Harmony'' (1906), ''Counterpoint'' (1910; 1922) and ''Free Composition'' (1935). Orchester Musikkollegium Winterthur
The Orchester Musikkollegium Winterthur is a Swiss symphony orchestra based in Winterthur, Switzerland at its namesake venue, the Musikkollegium Winterthur. The orchestra performs around 60 concerts a year, and in addition to orchestra concerts, performs in the pit at the Zurich Opera. History The oldest orchestra in Switzerland, the orchestra was founded in 1875 as the ''Stadtorchester Winterthur''. Shmuel Ashkenasi ( he, שמואל אשכנזי; born January 11, 1941) is an Israeli violinist and teacher. Biography Born in Tel Aviv on January 11, 1941, he began his musical training at the Musical Academy of Tel-Aviv studying with legendary pedagogue Ilona Feher, the teacher of such violinists as Pinchas Zukerman and Shlomo Mintz. He arrived in the United States while still young and studied with Efrem Zimbalist at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Career Ashkenasi won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 1961 and in 1962 captured top prizes at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, Russia, the Merriweather Post Competition in Washington, D.C., and the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition in Belgium. Vienna Symphony Orchestra
The Vienna Symphony (Vienna Symphony Orchestra, german: Wiener Symphoniker) is an Austrian orchestra based in Vienna. Its primary concert venue is the Vienna Konzerthaus. In Vienna, the orchestra also performs at the Musikverein and at the Theater an der Wien. History In 1900, Ferdinand Löwe founded the orchestra as the ''Wiener Concertverein'' (Vienna Concert Society). In 1913 it moved into the Konzerthaus, Vienna.
