Henry George Parson
Henry George Parson (September 13, 1865 – February 5, 1936) was an English-born merchant and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Columbia from 1907 to 1912 as a Conservative. He was born in London, the son of George F. Parson, and was educated there. Parson came to Ottawa in 1883, moved to Banff in 1885 and then came to British Columbia in 1887. In 1889, he married Mary Jane Reid. Parson lived in Golden. He served as president of the Golden Board of Trade and of the Golden Hospital Society. He was chairman of the Royal Commission of Labour which produced its report in 1914. Parson died in Vancouver at the age of 70. British Columbia Conservative Party
The Conservative Party of British Columbia is a provincial political party in British Columbia, Canada. In the early half of the 20th century, the Conservatives competed with the British Columbia Liberal Party for power in the province. Since the 1950s however, the party has had only a minor presence, not having elected a member of the Legislative Assembly (or MLA) in a general election since 1975. The last sitting MLA for the Conservatives was John van Dongen, who briefly crossed the floor to the party in 2012 before leaving to sit as an independent. Three Conservative leaders have served as Premier of British Columbia: Richard McBride, William John Bowser, and Simon Fraser Tolmie. Columbia (electoral District)
Columbia was a provincial electoral district in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It made its first appearance on the hustings in the election of 1903. It lasted until the 1928 election, when it was merged into Columbia-Revelstoke for the 1933 election. Following the election the new Pattullo government moved to reestablish Columbia as a separate riding, and former MLA Thomas King was elected by acclamation in a 1934 by election. In 1966 the riding was renamed Columbia River. This riding was later merged with the Revelstoke riding to become Columbia River-Revelstoke, the current riding for the western part of the area. Golden, British Columbia
Golden is a town in southeastern British Columbia, Canada, west of Calgary, Alberta, and east of Vancouver. History In 1807, David Thompsonrenowned fur trader, surveyor, and map-makerwas tasked by the North West Company to open a trading route to the lucrative trading territories of the Pacific Northwest. He first crossed over the Rocky Mountains and travelled along the Blaeberry River to the future site of Golden. In 1881 the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) hired surveyor A. B. Rogers to find a rail route through the Selkirk and Rocky Mountains, and in 1882 he found the pass now named for him. Rogers established a base camp for his survey crew led by a man named McMillan. Parson, British Columbia
Parson is an unincorporated community on the east shore of the Columbia River, in the Columbia Valley region of southeastern British Columbia. The locality, on BC Highway 95, is by road about north of Cranbrook and southeast of Golden. Name origin E. Thomas Johnson (Johnston alternate spelling) operated a hotel in a tent 1884–1886, before returning to farming and prospecting. During the westward advance of the Canadian Pacific Railway transcontinental line at this time, alcohol was considered a disruptive influence in the construction camps. Consequently, a alcohol-free zone was instituted on both sides of the right-of-way. At Johnson's Ranch, about by river southeast of Golden, liquor was freely available.
