Hemavan
Hemavan ( South Sami: Bïerke) is a locality situated in Storuman Municipality, Västerbotten County ( Lapland), Sweden with 222 inhabitants in 2010. It is located on European route E12. During the winter months Hemavan caters to many tourists, mainly from Sweden and the neighbouring countries of Norway and Finland. Hemavan also has the Hemavan Airport, with one flight per day 6 days of the week to and from Stockholm-Arlanda. Hemavan is the starting point of the Kungsleden trail. Climate Hemavan has a subarctic climate (Köppen ''Dfc'') with cold winters and mild summers. Due to North Atlantic low-pressure systems dominating winter months, Hemavan receives sizeable amounts of snow in winter and the cover usually thaws in May. Hemavan Airport
Hemavan Tärnaby Airport is an airport in Hemavan, Sweden. The nearest villages are Hemavan and Tärnaby, both of which are ski resorts. Also many Norwegians from Mo i Rana and surroundings use the airport. It is located in Storuman Municipality (Västerbotten County), which was 1994-2010 the only municipality in Sweden with two airports operating scheduled flights. Kungsleden
Kungsleden (King's Trail) is a hiking trail in northern Sweden, approximately long, between Abisko in the north and Hemavan in the south. It passes through, near the southern end, the Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve, one of the largest protected areas in Europe. In the winter Kungsleden is a ski trail with approximately the same route. History The history of Kungsleden is connected to the Swedish Tourism Association ( Svenska Turistföreningen or STF). This association was formed in 1885 by scientists at Uppsala in order to facilitate access to Swedish mountains. From the late nineteenth century, the association had the idea of creating a royal road through the mountains in Swedish Lapland. The proposed route was to link the present-day Abisko to Kvikkjokk. Storuman Municipality
Storuman Municipality (; sma, Luspie tjïelte; sju, Lusspie kommuvnna) is a municipality in Västerbotten County in northern Sweden. Its seat is located in Storuman. The parish Stensele was created as late as 1822. It was, together with the parish Tärna, made into a municipality in 1863. In 1903 Tärna was detached to form a municipality of its own. The local government reform of 1971 saw the reunification of Stensele and Tärnaby municipalities, thus forming Storuman Municipality with the name taken from its largest town. Tärnaby, a small village in the municipality, has fostered the internationally famous alpine skiers Ingemar Stenmark, Stig Strand and Anja Pärson. Tärnaby
Tärnaby is a locality situated in Storuman Municipality, Lappland, Västerbotten County, Sweden with 482 inhabitants in 2010. It is known for its successful skiers, particularly in the "technical" disciplines: Slalom and Giant Slalom: Ingemar Stenmark, Anja Pärson, Bengt Fjällberg, Stig Strand and Jens Byggmark. In winter Tärnaby is transformed into one of northern Sweden's ski resorts. European Route E12
European route E12 is a road that is part of the International E-road network. It begins in Mo i Rana, Norway, transverses Sweden and ends in Helsinki, Finland, with a ferry line between Sweden and Finland. The part within Finland is Finnish national highway 3. The road is about 910 km (570 mi) in length. The road follows the route: Mo i Rana – Storuman, Sweden – Lycksele, Sweden – Umeå, Sweden – Holmsund, Sweden – ''(ferry)'' – Vaasa, Finland – Tampere, Finland – Hämeenlinna, Finland – Helsinki. The ferry service between Holmsund and Vaasa is operated by Wasa Line using the M/S Aurora Botnia, with up to two daily departures in each direction taking about three and a half hours. Köppen Climate Classification
The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. It was first published by German-Russian climatologist Wladimir Köppen (1846–1940) in 1884, with several later modifications by Köppen, notably in 1918 and 1936.
