Helsinki Burlesque Festival
The Helsinki Burlesque Festival was an annual burlesque festival held in Helsinki, Finland, in late winter every year. The festival was started in 2008 by the Hulapirates Team (Bettie Blackheart, Frank Doggenstein and Kiki Hawaiji). Since 2010, the festival was produced by Bettie Blackheart and Frank Doggenstein from the Helsinki Burlesque organization. The final festival was held in 2017. The festival lasted approximately one week, starting on Friday and ending on Sunday the following week, although not all days had events. The main event was held on Saturday on the second week, and consisted mainly of performances by various burlesque artists. Neo-Burlesque, or New Burlesque, is the revival and updating of the traditional American burlesque performance. Though based on the traditional burlesque art, the new form encompasses a wider range of performance styles; neo-burlesque acts can range from anything from classic striptease to modern dance to theatrical mini-dramas to comedic mayhem. Kaisaniemi
Kaisaniemi ( sv, Kajsaniemi) is a part of the centre of Helsinki, Finland. It is located immediately north of the Helsinki Central railway station and south of Hakaniemi. The most famous part of Kaisaniemi is the Kaisaniemi park, a park covering many hectares right in the city centre. Kaisaniemi is part of the Vironniemi district and neighbourhood of Kluuvi. The Kaisaniemi district was first founded in the 1820s when Catharina "Cajsa" Wahllund founded a restaurant in the city centre. The restaurant, which survives to this day, later gave its name to the entire district. The reason for the similarity between the Finnish and Swedish names is that unlike almost every other district in central Helsinki, Kaisaniemi got a Finnish name first, and that name was copied into Swedish, with only a minor orthographic change. Gloria is a cultural arena which has been operating regularly since 1999 and is located in Helsinki, Finland at Pieni Roobertinkatu 12–14. Kaartinkaupunki ( sv, Gardesstaden) is a Subdivisions of Helsinki#Neighbourhoods, neighbourhood in the southern part of Helsinki, Finland. Kaartinkaupunki consists of the area between the Esplanadi park and the Tähtitornin vuori park. Its area was first confirmed in 1812, but the neighbourhood was only named in 1959. It is neighbourhood number 3 in Helsinki, belonging to the Ullanlinna district and to the Southern main district.
