Helmar, Illinois
Helmar is an unincorporated community in Kendall County, Illinois. The community is located near Newark and Plattville and is between Illinois State Routes 71 and 47. History The community grew around the Lutheran church, then known as the North Prairie Lutheran Church, due to it being northward of Lisbon's church. Due to the church's name, the community as a whole was referred to as North Prairie. In 1894, the residents of North Prairie sought to establish a post office to serve the community. They needed to create a new name for the community, as North Prairie was already in use. They decided to name it Helmar, the anglicized form of Hjalmar, the Scandinavia Scandinavia; Sámi languages: /. Lisbon, Illinois
Lisbon is a village in Kendall County, Illinois, United States. The population was 271 at the 2020 census. The community was established in 1836 with a log tavern and a highway connecting Joliet to Chicago Road. This led to the addition of a post office, an enterprise, and a schoolhouse. The town became part of Kendall County in 1841. John Moore is credited with naming Lisbon Township, a name with Portuguese origins. According to Joseph R. Adams in the May 28, 1896, edition of the ''Kendall County News'', "Though ten miles from a railroad, the villagers appear not wanting. They appear to be living better and happier than those differently situated." Plattville, Illinois
Plattville is a village in Lisbon Township, Kendall County, Illinois, United States, west of Joliet. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 242. The community was established in 1860 and named after founder Daniel Platt, who first built a home there in 1834 on the Frink and Walker stagecoach route between Chicago and Ottawa. Plattville was officially incorporated in March 2006 and had an estimated population of 245 in 2007. Plattville's first mayor was George "Jerry" Friel, who died in 2009. He was instrumental in his role in incorporating the village of Plattville in the mid-2000s, and spent some of his own money to file the town's incorporation papers.
