Helena Eldrup
Helena Eldrup (1800 in Karlshamn – 1872 in Gothenburg), was a Swedish educator. She was the first principal of the ''Kjellbergska flickskolan'' in Gothenburg from its foundation in 1835 until her death in 1872. Life Helena Eldrup was born to the sea captain Gabriel Mollén (d. 1802) and Anna Katarina Remner (d. 1834) and married in Gothenburg in 1821 to sea captain Niels Eldrup (d. 1837), with whom she had a daughter and a son. She lived with her husband in Chile in 1822–27, but separated from him in 1828, lived with her brother John in Great Britain in 1828–29, and returned to Sweden in 1829. Karlshamn
Karlshamn () is a locality and the seat of Karlshamn Municipality in Blekinge County, Sweden. It had 13,576 inhabitants in 2015, out of 31,846 in the municipality. Karlshamn received a Royal Charter and city privileges in 1664, when King Charles X Gustav, in Swedish Karl, realized the strategic location near the Baltic Sea. In 1666 the town was named Karlshamn, meaning ''Karl's Port'' in honour of the Swedish king. History At the outlet of the stream Mieån was found a harbour and fishing village "Bodekull" and a farm "Bodetorp". In the lower parts of "Mörrumsån" was a prosperous salmon fishery. Kjellbergska Flickskolan
Kjellbergska flickskolan ('Kjellberg Girls' School') was a Girls' School in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was active between 1835 and 1967. History The school was founded by a fund granted in the will of the wealthy merchant Jonas Kjellberg (1752–1832). Jonas Kjellberg was a merchant and trader who in 1808, formed an import and shipping company under the name Jonas Kjellberg & Co. Kjellberg died in 1832, and the school was inaugurated in 1835. The stated purpose of the school was to provide education to make it possible for females to support themselves professionally. This separated the school from most other contemporary girls' schools, which had the purpose to educate their students as ideal wives and mothers, and it was thereby a part of the wave of a new type of girls' schools, which was established in Sweden in the mid 19th-century in response to a contemporary Swedish debate about women's education. Societetsskolan i Göteborg för döttrar ('Society School for Daughters in Gothenburg') or simply ''Societetsskolan'' ('Society School'), was a Swedish girls' school managed by the congregation of the Moravian Church in Gothenburg from 1 November 1787 until 1857. It is referred to as the first girls' school in Sweden, because it was the first institution to provide serious academic secondary education to females. Therese Kamph
Therese Kamph (1836–1884), was a Swedish educator. She was the principal of the ''Kjellbergska flickskolan'' in Gothenburg from 1872 until her death in 1884. She is credited with having developed the school to one of the foremost institutions for secondary education for women in Sweden. Life Therese Kamph was born on 25 February 1836, on an estate in Hammarö, Värmland, the second youngest of nine children to Per Fredrik Kamph, a regiment commissar. She was a student of a teacher's seminar in Hamburg, and at the ''Högre lärarinneseminariet'' in Stockholm in 1870–72. She died on 19 October 1884, in Gothenburg. Jenny Nyström
Jenny Eugenia Nyström (13 or 15 June 1854 in Kalmar, Sweden – 17 January 1946 in Stockholm) was a painter and illustrator mainly known as the creator of the Swedish image of the '' jultomte'' on Christmas cards and magazine covers, thus linking the Swedish version of Santa Claus to the gnomes and tomtar of Scandinavian folklore.
