Falun
Falun () is a city and the seat of Falun Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 37,291 inhabitants in 2010. It is also the capital of Dalarna County. Falun forms, together with Borlänge, a metropolitan area with just over 100,000 inhabitants. Falun was originally famous for its copper mine, and is today an important service and industrial city even though the mine is closed (since 1992). Faluån is a river, flowing through the city, separating it into two sides. Falu copper mine is located on one of the sides which during many centuries was one of Sweden's main business. This side of the river was usually called "the mining side", where not many plants grew due to the toxic smoke which contaminated the soil. On the other side of the river, where the smoke did not reach, set many large villas, which made this side to be called "the delightful side". Helle Sparre (born 30 June 1956) is a former professional tennis player from Denmark. She competed during her career under her married name Helle Sparre-Viragh. Biography Born in Copenhagen, Sparre featured in 13 Federation Cup ties for Denmark in the 1970s, including a quarter-final in 1976. She twice reached the third round of the Wimbledon Championships, in 1977 and 1978. Partnering Helena Anliot, she won the doubles title at the 1978 U.S. Clay Court Championships. Sparre lived in California beginning in 1978 and served as the tennis director and head pro at Scott Valley Swimming and Tennis Club in Mill Valley, CA from 1987-2015 . Alena Palmeová-West (born 7 January 1945) is a Czech former professional tennis player. Biography Palmeová born in 1945 in Jihlava. She married American William Sidney West on July 17, 1970, divorced 1984. After the wedding she played under the name Alena Palmeová-West. Carmen Perea Alcalá (born 3 May 1952) is a Spanish former professional tennis player. Biography Perea was born in Melilla, an autonomous Spanish city on the African continent. She later moved to Málaga and then at the age of 18 settled in Barcelona. From 1973 to 1983 she appeared in 29 Federation Cup ties for Spain, winning 19 matches overall. One of her singles wins over was West German Sylvia Hanika in 1980. During this period she was the top female player in Spain and won nine Spanish Tennis Championships, in a run which included ten successive finals. Elly Appel-Vessies (27 July 1952 - 16 July 2022) was a former professional tennis player from the Netherlands. Since retiring, she played some seniors tennis. Appel-Vessies' best performance in the singles competition at a Grand Slam championship was at the 1975 French Open when she reached the third round. Virginia Ruzici (born 31 January 1955) is a former professional tennis player from Romania. She won the 1978 French Open singles championship. Career Ruzici became a professional tennis player in 1975. One of her main assets on court was her powerful forehand. In a career spanning 12 years, Ruzici won 12 career singles titles, including one Grand Slam title, the 1978 French Open. In the final, she beat 1977 French Open champion Mima Jaušovec 6–2, 6–2.
