Hei Ling Chau
Hei Ling Chau, formerly Hayling Chau, is an island of Hong Kong, located east of Silver Mine Bay and Chi Ma Wan of Lantau Island. Administratively, it is part of the Islands District. Geography Hei Ling Chau is located south of Peng Chau and north of Cheung Chau. Its companion, Sunshine Island, is at its northeast. It has an area of , and the highest hill heighted . The island is L-shaped with angle pointed northeast. Southwest water of the island is zoned as Hei Ling Chau Typhoon Shelter. History The island was originally named Nai Gu Island (). It was settled at the end of the 19th century, and by 1951, there were 10 families numbering about 100 people on the island. It was designated as a leper colony in 1950 and the islanders were relocated to Tai Pak, Shap Long and Cheung Chau. The island was then renamed to Hei Ling Chau. Lantau Island (also Lantao Island, Lan Tao) is the largest island in Hong Kong, located West of Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula, and is part of the New Territories. The Outlying Islands are all the islands that make up the territory of Hong Kong, with the exception of Hong Kong Island and some smaller islands near its coast. There are 263 islands over 500 m2 in Hong Kong, the vast majority of which are located within the New Territories, with significant numbers located in Islands District in the south and southwest, Sai Kung District in the southeast, and Tai Po District and North District in the northeast. The term "outlying" is not strictly defined and in some cases islands very close to Hong Kong Island are not included. Lantau Trail
The Lantau Trail (), opened on 4 December 1984, is a long-distance footpath on Lantau Island in the New Territories of Hong Kong. The trail is a loop starting and finishing in Mui Wo. It is the third longest trail in Hong Kong, after MacLehose Trail and Wilson Trail. The Lantau Trail has good visitor facilities along the way, and the route is well marked. There are information boards and maps at junctions between each stage. Distance posts around 500 metres apart help hikers know where they are. Dibamus Bogadeki
''Dibamus bogadeki'', or Bogadek's burrowing lizard (Chinese: 鮑氏雙足蜥), is a species of legless lizard in the family Dibamidae. The species is endemic to Hong Kong. Etymology ''D. bogadeki'' is named after its first collector, Father Anthony Bogadek, a herpetologist and teacher at the St Louis School in Hong Kong, and a coauthor of the first major guide to Hong Kong Amphibians and Reptiles. Distribution and ecology The species ''D. bogadeki'' can only be found on Hei Ling Chau, Shek Kwu Chau and Sunshine Island in Hong Kong. It was discovered in 1987 on the island of Hei Ling Chau, the species is also the only legless lizard that can be found in Hong Kong.
