''Haywire'' is a collaborative mixtape by American rappers Hopsin and SwizZz. The project was the debut release by independent hip hop record label Funk Volume. It was released on July 18, 2009 on DatPiff. In addition, a physical release of the project debuted as well onto iTunes on May 8, 2012. The mixtape spawned three singles, "Lucifer Effect", "Bad Motherfucker" and "Leave Me Alone". As of 2016, the project has been downloaded over 500,000 times. Marcus Jamal Hopson (born July 18, 1985), known professionally as Hopsin, is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer from Los Angeles. In 2007, he was signed to Ruthless Records, and had founded his own record label, Funk Volume, in 2009. He would then go on to found another record label, Undercover Prodigy, in 2016. Hopsin has released five studio albums, ''Gazing at the Moonlight'' through Ruthless Records, ''Raw'', ''Knock Madness'' and '' Pound Syndrome'' along with the collaborative project Haywire with SwizZz through Funk Volume and '' No Shame''. He is well known for his use of white colored eye contacts in music videos, performances, and interviews. Justin Ritter (born September 28, 1987), known professionally as SwizZz, is an American rapper and songwriter. He is best known for significantly collaborating with childhood friend Hopsin, and being signed to their record label Funk Volume, which was founded by Hopsin himself. He has released various singles and released two mixtapes including '' Haywire'' with Hopsin, and ''Good Morning SwizZzle''. Early life SwizZz initially met Hopsin in high school, where they were classmates and became close friends. After high school SwizZz got accepted into the University of California at Irvine, but after two years he decided to put his education on hold, while he would pursue a career in music. Horrorcore
Horrorcore, also called horror hip hop, horror rap, death hip hop, or death rap, is a subgenre of hip hop music based on horror-themed and often darkly transgressive lyrical content and imagery. Funk Volume was an American independent record label founded by American rapper Hopsin. The label was home to artists Dizzy Wright, Jarren Benton, SwizZz, and producers DJ Hoppa and Kato. The label is defunct due to a feud between co-founders Hopsin and Damien "Dame" Ritter in regards to financial alterations. Following the feud Hopsin decided to leave the label, resulting in all affiliated artists leaving Funk Volume. The label was shut down soon after. ''Emurge'' is the widely bootlegged and unreleased demo album by American hip hop recording artist Hopsin. It is widely believed the project was recorded sometime in 2003 and was not a retail mixtape like other common mixtapes and the project was created for a local audience to create a buzz for the artist who at the time had decided to take rapping seriously. Prior to rapping, Hopsin had appeared as an extra in TV shows such as ''Malcolm in the Middle'' and ''That's So Raven'' among others. No official physical copies of Emurge have been found or sold online, despite that all songs off ''Emurge'' were released officially on YouTube. ''Gazing at the Moonlight'' is the debut studio album by American rapper Hopsin. It was released on October 27, 2009, through Ruthless Records. This was Hopsin's only record released with Ruthless Records as the album created bitter tension between Ruthless and Hopsin, due to the lack of promotion and financial compensation for the album. ''Gazing at the Moonlight'' was supported by two singles: "Pans in the Kitchen" and "I'm Here". The title refers to "Gazing at the Moonlight" hoping and wishing on a dream to come true. The album stylistically incorporates elements of horrorcore, pop rap and comedy hip hop. In various interviews Hopsin discourages fans against buying the CD, due to its release on Ruthless, however, although the iTunes edition is widely available, the CD cannot be commonly found in music stores and is considered rare as the physical CD edition costs between $20–30.
