Haukar (basketball Club)
The Haukar men's basketball team, commonly known as Haukar, is the men's basketball department of Knattspyrnufélagið Haukar multi-sport club, based in the town of Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. Home court Haukar play their home games in Ólafssalur (English: Ólaf's hall) in Ásvellir. The court is named after Ólafur Rafnsson, a former Haukar player and president of FIBA Europe. Recent history Haukar where relegate from the top-tier Úrvalsdeild karla at the end of the 2020-2021 season. Ásvellir
Ásvellir is a sports venue in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland with a gym, pool, basketball court and football field. Two decades ago in 1996 a company and the Hafnarfjörður council signed an agreement to subsidize the construction of the complex. Finished in 1999, it started to host tournaments in 2000. Refurbishment In 2014, the Ásvellir gym part was refurbished by polishing the gym surface, grinding up the floor and inserting the lines again. Its roof began to leak in October 2016 seeing that there was a storm. Ólafssalur In 2018, a new basketball court in the Ásvellir area was opened. Jón Arnar Ingvarsson
Jón Arnar Ingvarsson (born 3 June 1972) is an Icelandic former professional basketball player and coach. He spent the majority of his career with Haukar in the Úrvalsdeild karla. He retired as the Úrvalsdeild all-time leader in assists but has since been surpassed by Justin Shouse. Jón Sigurðsson (basketball)
Jón Sigurðsson (born 6 March 1951) is an Icelandic former basketball player and the former captain of the Icelandic national basketball team. He was named the Icelandic Basketball Player of the Year in 1976 and 1978 and won the Icelandic championship in 1976, 1978 and 1979. In 2001, Jón was named as one of the twelve best Icelandic men's basketball players of the 20th century. Playing career Jón started his playing career with Ármann at the age of 16. In 1971, Jón led the Icelandic league in scoring, surpassing Einar Bollason and Þórir Magnússon by scoring 46 points in the last game of the season, despite having a fever. Birgir Örn Birgis
Birgir Örn Birgisson (23 September 1942 – 11 December 2017) was an Icelandic basketball player and coach. He was one of the inaugural players of the Icelandic national basketball team in 1959 and played a total of 33 national team games. He played twenty seasons in the Icelandic top-tier league with Ármann and helped the club to its first and only men's national championship in 1976. Terrence Watson (born March 3, 1987) is an American-Israeli professional basketball player for Hapoel Eilat of the Israeli Premier League. A forward, he played college basketball for Mott Community College, University of Mississippi and Ball State University before playing professionally in Iceland, Israel, Finland and the Philippines. Ragnar Ágúst Nathanaelsson (born 27 August 1991) is an Icelandic basketball player who plays for Hamar of the Icelandic 1. deild karla. Pálmar Sigurðsson (born 7 February 1963) is an Icelandic former basketball player and coach, and a former member of the Icelandic national team. In 2001 he was named to the Icelandic basketball team of the 20th century by the Icelandic Basketball Association. Club career Pálmar started his career with Haukar and helped them win the 2. deild karla in 1981. In 1983, he led Haukar to victory in the 1. deild karla and promotion to the top-tier Úrvalsdeild karla. In 1988 he led Haukar to the national championship after making 11 three-point shots in the fifth and deciding game of the finals against Njarðvík. Kári Jónsson (born August 27, 1997) is an Icelandic basketball player who plays for Valur in the Úrvalsdeild karla. He was named to the Úrvalsdeild Domestic All-First team in 2016 when he helped Haukar to the Úrvalsdeild finals where they lost to KR. Jónatan James Bow (born Jonathan James Bow on 16 February 1966) is an American-Icelandic former basketball player and a former member of the Icelandic national basketball team. He won the Icelandic championship three times with Keflavík and KR. Playing career Bow's first professional stop was with Haukar in 1989. In September 1989, Haukar loaned Bow to KR to participate in the FIBA Korać Cup. With KR, Bow teamed up with Soviet Union national team player Anatolij Kovtun which was, according to FIBA, the first time an American and a Soviet player played together in the Cup. KR faced Hemel Royals in the first round. In the first game, Bow scored 16 points in KR's 53–45 victory.
