Jón Sigurðsson (basketball)
Jón Sigurðsson (born 6 March 1951) is an Icelandic former basketball player and the former captain of the Icelandic national basketball team. He was named the Icelandic Basketball Player of the Year in 1976 and 1978 and won the Icelandic championship in 1976, 1978 and 1979. In 2001, Jón was named as one of the twelve best Icelandic men's basketball players of the 20th century. Playing career Jón started his playing career with Ármann at the age of 16. In 1971, Jón led the Icelandic league in scoring, surpassing Einar Bollason and Þórir Magnússon by scoring 46 points in the last game of the season, despite having a fever. In 1975, Jón led the league again in scoring with 306 total points, passing Kolbeinn Pálsson in the last game of the season. Einar Bollason
Einar Gunnar Bollason (born 6 November 1943) is an Icelandic former basketball player, coach and TV analyst. As a player, he won the Icelandic championship six times with KR. In 2001, he was named to the Icelandic basketball team of the 20th century and the coach of the 20th century by the Icelandic Basketball Association. In 2020, he received the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Falcon from the president of Iceland. Early life Einar was born in Vesturbær in Reykjavík. The 1970 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 19th season of the top tier men's basketball league on Iceland, then known as 1. deild karla. The season started on January 4, 1970 and ended on March 21, 1970. ÍR won their tenth title by beating Ármann 2-0 in the playoffs finals for championship. KR finished in third place after beating KFR, two games to none, in a best-of-three series. Þórir Magnússon led all players in scoring during the regular season, scoring 292 points in 10 games, or 29.2 points per game. Competition format The participating teams played each other twice for a total of 10 games. The top four teams would then enter a playoffs for the championship. Kristín Björk Jónsdóttir
Kristín Björk Jónsdóttir (born 7 February 1974) is an Icelandic former basketball player and a former member of the Icelandic national basketball team. She was the captain of the KR team that won back-to-back national championships in 2001 and 2002. In 2001 she was named the Icelandic Women's Basketball Player of the Year and the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year. Playing career Kristín started playing basketball at the age of 14 with the junior teams of Tindastóll. She joined KR at the age of 17 and soon started playing with its senior team in the Icelandic top-tier league. Hrannar Hólm (born 17 April 1964) is an Icelandic former basketball coach. He was the head coach of the Danish women's national basketball team from 2014 to 2017. From 2011 to 2014, he led SISU BK to four straight Dameligaen championships. Career Iceland Hrannar coached for five seasons in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild karla, accumulating a 62-34 record (64,6%). His best season came in 1995-1996 when he led defending champions Njarðvík to a 28-4 record, including a 17-game winning streak to finish the season. Although the team had the best record in the league it fell out in the quarter-finals in the playoffs against Keflavík.
