Haugsholmen Lighthouse
Haugsholmen Lighthouse ( no, Haugsholmen fyr) is a coastal lighthouse located in the municipality of Sande in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located on the tiny island of Vestre Frekøy, in the mouth of the Vanylvsfjorden, about southwest of the island of Kvamsøya. It was established in 1876 and automated in 1979. The tall tower sits at an elevation of above sea level. The light emits white, red or green light, depending on direction, occulting twice every 10 seconds. The red cylindrical tower with lantern and gallery is attached to one corner of a -story white keeper's house. Møre og Romsdal (; en, Møre and Romsdal) is a county in the northernmost part of Western Norway. It borders the counties of Trøndelag, Innlandet, and Vestland. The county administration is located in the town of Molde, while Ålesund is the largest town. Sande is a municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is part of the Sunnmøre region. The administrative centre is the village of Larsnes on the island of Gurskøya. Vanylvsfjorden
Vanylvsfjorden is a fjord in western Norway, on the border of Vestland and Møre og Romsdal counties. The long fjord runs between the mainland of Vanylven Municipality and the Stad peninsula of Stad Municipality, with the islands of Sande Municipality lying in the mouth of the fjord. The inner part of the fjord branches into the Syltefjorden and Kjødepollen. The deepest part of the fjord reaches about below sea level, just northeast of the village of Borgundvåg. Kvamsøya is an island in the municipality of Sande in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located east of the Stad peninsula in Selje Municipality and about west of the village of Larsnes on the island of Gurskøya. The island lies in the Vanylvsgapet, the entrance to the Vanylvsfjorden. The island has been inhabited for a very long time. Occulting
An occultation is an event that occurs when one object is hidden from the observer by another object that passes between them. The term is often used in astronomy, but can also refer to any situation in which an object in the foreground blocks from view (occults) an object in the background. The coast of Norway is 100,915 km long and there have been a total of 212 lighthouses along it, but no more than 154 have ever been operational at the same time. The first, Lindesnes Lighthouse, opened in 1655; the newest Lighthouse, Anda, was finished in 1932. The first Lighthouses were private operations, but in 1821 the government made the Channel and Harbor Inspector responsible for Lighthouses in Norway. A dedicated Lighthouse Administration was set up in 1841. The Lighthouses are today mostly automated and since 1974, run by the Norwegian Coastal Administration. Two lightvessels had been operated along the Norwegian coast.
