Hassan Ayariga
Hassan Ayariga (born 4 September 1972) is a Ghanaian accountant, entrepreneur and politician. He is the founder of the All People's Congress (Ghana), All People's Congress (APC) and was the candidate of the People's National Convention (Ghana), People's National Convention for the 2012 Ghanaian presidential election, December 2012 presidential election. Early life and education Ayariga spent his childhood in Accra and Bawku, moving to Nigeria with his parents after the overthrow of the Hilla Limann, Limann administration. He attended Ghana Senior High School (Tamale), Ghana Secondary School in Tamale and then in Nigeria Barewa College in Zaria. He later studied accounting at the London School of Accountancy and earned a PhD from Atlantic International University, an American distance learning university. Barewa College
Barewa College is a college in Zaria, Kaduna State, northern Nigeria. Founded in 1921 by British Governor General Hugh Clifford, it was originally known as Katsina College. It switched its name to Kaduna College in 1938 and to Government College, Zaria in 1949 before settling on Barewa College. It is one of the largest boarding schools in Northern Nigeria and was the most-celebrated post-primary schools there up to the early 1960s. 2020 Ghanaian General Election
General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2020. Incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was re-elected in the first round after securing a majority of the votes. Former President John Dramani Mahama says he will contest the results. 2016 Ghanaian General Election
General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2016 to elect a President and Members of Parliament. They had originally been scheduled for 7 November 2016, but the date was later rejected by Parliament. Former foreign minister Nana Akufo-Addo of the opposition New Patriotic Party was elected President on his third attempt, defeating incumbent President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress. The election results were announced on 9 December 2016 due to a delay of voting in two areas. At 19:51 local time, Mahama called Akufo-Addo to concede defeat. At 20:45, the Electoral Commission declared that Akufo-Addo had defeated Mahama in a single round. It was the first time in Ghana's history that a sitting president had been defeated for reelection. National Democratic Congress (Ghana)
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is a social democratic political party in Ghana, founded by Jerry Rawlings, who was Head of State of Ghana from 1981 to 1993 and the President of Ghana from 1993 to 2001. Following the formation of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), which ruled Ghana following the military coup d'état on 31 December 1981, there was pressure from the international community to restore democracy. The NDC was formed as the ruling party ahead of elections in 1992, in which Rawlings was elected president, and in 1996 Rawlings was re-elected as the NDC candidate. Rawlings' second term ended in 2001. The NDC lost the presidency in the 2000 election, and it was not until the 2008 election, that they regained it with John Atta Mills as its candidate. Frank Abdulai Ayariga
Frank Asumah Abdulai Ayariga was the first Member of Parliament for Bawku during the Third Republic of Ghana. Politics Ayariga was a member of the People's National Party which was also formed the government in power between 1979 and 1981. Following the overthrow of Hilla Limann's government by the Jerry Rawlings-led Provisional National Defence Council on 31 December 1981, Ayariga left for exile in Nigeria. He stayed there for six years, only returning to Ghana in 1987 after he had been cleared of corruption. Family Ayariga's family hails from Tinsungo in Bawku in the Upper East Region of Ghana.
