Bawku Central
Bawku Central is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. Bawku Central is located in the Bawku Municipal district of the Upper East Region of Ghana. Boundaries The seat is located within the Bawku Municipal District in the Upper East Region of Ghana. Prior to the 2004 parliamentary election, the Pusiga constituency was carved out of the pre-existing Bawku Central constituency in what was then known as the Bawku East District. The current constituency is thus smaller in area than that preceding the 2004 election. Members of Parliament The current MP is Mahama Ayariga who was elected in the December 2020 elections. Ayariga was the member of Ghana's parliament for the Bawku Central constituency from 2005 but lost his seat in the 2008 Elections to Adamu Dramani Sakande of the NPP. Bawku Municipal District
Bawku Municipal District is one of the fifteen districts in Upper East Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as Bawku East District; which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 1439, until the southern part of the district was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor in August 2004 to create Garu-Tempane District; thus the remaining part was elevated to municipal district assembly status on the same year to become Bawku Municipal District. However, on 28 June 2012, two parts of the district were later split off to create Binduri District (from the west) and Pusiga District (from the east) respectively; thus the remaining part has been retained as Bawku Municipal District. The municipality is located in the eastern part of Upper East Region and has Bawku as its capital town. Democratic Freedom Party
The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) was a political party in Ghana. It was formed in 2006 and eventually merged with the National Democratic Congress in 2011. It came in fourth place in the Ghanaian general election of 2008 with 0.33% of the total vote. Formation The formation of the Democratic Freedom Party was announced in February, 2006 by Dr. Obed Asamoah, former chairman of the National Democratic Congress, as a viable third party alternative to the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party. This follows a split between a Rawlings faction and an Asamoah faction within the NDC. Fati Seidu is a Ghanaian politician who was the member of the Second parliament of the Fourth republic representing the Bawku Central constituency in the Upper East Region of Ghana. Politics She contested for the Bawku Central seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 1996 parliamentary election and won polling 30,045 votes out of the 54,327 valid votes cast which represented 42.80% of the entire votes cast against Hawa Yakubu who polled 21,493 votes which represented 30.60% of the entire votes cast and Awini Emmanuel Akami who polled 2,789 votes representing 4.00%. She lost the seat however during the 2000 parliamentary election to Hawa Yakubu but demanded a recount of the votes as she claimed counting of the votes by the Electoral Commission had been interrupted by violence in the area. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them.
