Frank Abdulai Ayariga
Frank Asumah Abdulai Ayariga was the first Member of Parliament for Bawku during the Third Republic of Ghana. Politics Ayariga was a member of the People's National Party which was also formed the government in power between 1979 and 1981. Following the overthrow of Hilla Limann's government by the Jerry Rawlings-led Provisional National Defence Council on 31 December 1981, Ayariga left for exile in Nigeria. He stayed there for six years, only returning to Ghana in 1987 after he had been cleared of corruption. Family Ayariga's family hails from Tinsungo in Bawku in the Upper East Region of Ghana. He was also a member of the Kusasi Royal Family. He was married to Anatu Ayariga. He had eleven children. His third child, Hassan Ayariga was the presidential candidate for the People's National Convention in the Ghanaian presidential election in December 2012. The Upper East Region is located in north Ghana and is the third smallest of the 16 administrative regions in Ghana. The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) was established by law in 1968 with a triple mandate as a State Broadcaster, Public Service Broadcaster, and a Commercial Broadcaster in Ghana. The Electoral Commission of Ghana(EC) is the official body in Ghana responsible for all public elections. Made up of seven members, its independence is guaranteed by the 1992 Ghana constitution. The current commission was established by the Electoral Commission Act (Act 451) of 1993. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan was the first substantive chairman of the commission from 1993 to 2015. 2012 Ghanaian General Election
General elections were held in Ghana on Friday 7 December 2012 to elect a president and members of Parliament in 275 electoral constituencies. Owing to the breakdown of some biometric verification machines, some voters could not vote, and voting was extended to Saturday 8 December 2012. A run-off was scheduled for 28 December 2012 if no presidential candidate received an absolute majority of 50% plus one vote. Competing for presidency were incumbent president John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), his main challenger Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and six other candidates. The People's National Convention is a political party in Ghana. After constitutional rule was restored back in Ghana in 1992 the party was formed by former President Hilla Limann based on ideals from the People's National Party (Ghana) which he led in the 1979 elections and won. The People's National Party (PNP) was the ruling party in Ghana during the Third Republic (1979-1981). All political parties in Ghana were disbanded following the January 1972 military coup led by Col. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong. When political activities resumed in 1979, there were five parties contesting the elections. The PNP claimed to represent the Nkrumah heritage.
