Haparanda (; fi, Haaparanta, , aspen shore or bank) is a locality and the seat of Haparanda Municipality in Norrbotten County, Sweden. It is adjacent to Tornio, Finland. Haparanda had a population of 4,856 in 2010, out of a municipal total of 10,200 inhabitants. Haparanda is, despite its small population, for historical reasons often still referred to as a ''city''. Statistics Sweden, however, only counts localities with more than 10,000 inhabitants as cities. Haparanda is located at the northerly extreme of the Swedish coastline, and far removed from large cities. Sävast AIF is a Swedish football club located in Sävast which is a neighbourhood of Boden, Norrbotten County. Background Sävast AIF was formed in 1977 with five sections covering Skiing, Tennis, Basketball, Football and Orienteering. In 1996 the separate sports split away from the club, partly because it was difficult to form a main board. Everyone wanted to work with their own sport leaving football to maintain the identity of Sävast AIF. Sävast AIF has at most run 17 teams catering for approximately 400 young people. Midnattsolscupen
Midnattsolscupen (Midnight Sun Cup) is a football tournament which is played annually in July in the Tornedalen (Norrbotten County) in northern Sweden. Background The Midnattsolscupen tournament is organised by the Polcirkeln/Svanstein FF, Ohtana/Aapua FF and Korpilombolo GIF clubs. Games are played in the villages of Svanstein and Aapua in Övertorneå, and in Ohtanajärvi in Pajala. Most of the matches are played during the late evening and as the name suggests - midnight, taking full advantage of the light nights in Tornedalen. The Final match is played in Svanstein and usually attracts large crowds. The rules state that the competing clubs are mostly from northern Sweden, Finland and Norway.
