Handgun (film)
''Handgun'' is a 1983 American vigilante film starring Karen Young (actress), Karen Young, Clayton Day, and Suzie Humphreys. It was written and directed by Tony Garnett. Synopsis Shortly after moving to Dallas, a young woman is raped at gunpoint. Her anger drives her to seek revenge, and she becomes a hunter on a vengeance mission. Production Garnett had recently moved to the United States from the UK and wanted to make a film about gun violence there. He got a development deal from The Ladd Company, then went to Dallas to research and write the film. He succeeded in raising the $3 million budget from EMI Films. Garnett found Karen Young in London and the actors who played her parents in Boston. The rest of the cast were from Dallas. Tony Garnett (3 April 1936 – 12 January 2020) was a British film and television producer, and actor. Best known for his thirteen-year association with director Ken Loach, his work as a producer continued into the 21st century. Karen Young (born September 29, 1958) is an American film, television, and stage actress. Early life and education Young was born in Pequannock Township, New Jersey on September 29, 1958. She graduated from Douglass Residential College at Rutgers University as an English major. Career After graduation, Young moved to New York City and became an actress. She was working as a waitress when she saw an advertisement in '' Backstage'' that read: "Wanted: 24-year-old Irish Catholic girl with long blond hair." Young responded to the ad and ended up starring in Tony Garnett's 1983 vigilante thriller '' Handgun'', for which she cut off her hair and in which she agreed to appear nude. The Ladd Company
The Ladd Company was an American film production company founded by Alan Ladd Jr., Jay Kanter, and Gareth Wigan in 1979. In 1979, the three founders were executives with 20th Century Fox; Ladd was the president. They announced their intention to leave the company when their contracts expired in December 1980 and form a new production company to be financed by Warner Bros. (Ladd had reportedly been quarreling with other Fox senior executives.) Fox subsequently cut their contracts short, ending on October 1, 1979.
