Han Chiang High School (韩江中学) is a Chinese independent high school in Jalan Han Chiang, Penang, Malaysia. The school was founded in 1950 by the Teow Chew Association of Penang and a local businessman, Lim Lean Teng. Teng gave the school and Han Chiang Primary School a piece of land measuring . The school is the first private Chinese school in Malaysia to be founded. It has a (sports) stadium, a "Just English" centre, a hostel, an event hall, three basketball courts, a library, five science labs, two computer labs, a music hall, a conference room and several multimedia rooms. All of its classrooms and facilities are air-conditioned. The school had about 1,000 students in the past decades, but it has recently soared to 2000 (approx.) students due to the availability of the IGCSE course. Han Chiang School () is a group of three schools in Malaysia. The first school was founded on 10 October 1919 in Jalan Lim Lean Teng, Penang. All three schools are controlled by the Han Chiang Board of Directors. Han Chiang School is also a Teochew-founded school and the schools are sited together. Name of school The name, Han Chiang, was adopted from a river in Chaozhou, China called the Han River. The river flows from the town of Chaozhou to the South China Sea. History Han Chiang School was first founded as Han Chiang Primary School in 1919 by the Teochew Association of Penang and Lim Lean Teng. Back then, the school was on Chulia Street. Lim Lean Teng () was a successful businessman who established schools in Penang with his wealth. He was born in 1870 in China. He first migrated to Penang, then to British Malaya. Career Lim Lean Teng ventured into business in Penang. He was successful and became a millionaire. He was one of the richest people in Penang at that time. He owned a bungalow as a personal residence. He also owned several other properties around the island. He helped establish the Han Chiang School with the Teochew Association of Penang.
