The Cannabis Party or The Hemp Party ( da, Hampepartiet) is a single issue, local political party in Denmark. The party stands for the legalisation of cannabis ''Cannabis'' () is a genus of flowering plants in the family Cannabaceae. The number of species within the genus is disputed. Three species may be recognized: ''Cannabis sativa'', '' C. indica'', and '' C. ruderalis''. Alternatively .... History The party was founded in 2001 with the only goal to legalise cannabis in Denmark. The party has run in all municipal elections since its foundation, as well as the elections for regional councils in 2009 and 2013. They intend to run in a Folketing election, but have not yet managed to do so. Cannabis political parties are generally single-issue parties that exist to oppose the laws against cannabis. Australia In the 1970s, J.J. McRoach ran for parliament as candidate for the Australian Marijuana Party. He had an advertising campaign funded by an anonymous dealer. His party came fourth in the elections. In 1986 Nick Brash ran for the "Marijuana Party" for the Kiama NSW by-election against ALP heavy-weight Bob "Bobo" Harrison. Then in 1987 Nick Brash ran in the Heathcote NSW by-election with 13 other candidates including the infamous Rex "Buckets" Jackson. This campaign was partly funded by the late John Marsden, solicitor and outspoken civil libertarian. Local and regional parties in Denmark are commonly knowns as local lists, citizens' lists or common lists (Danish: ''lokallister, borgerlister and fælleslister''). The Danish local elections of 2009 were held on 17 November 2009. Councils were elected in Denmark's 98 List of municipalities of Denmark, municipalities and the Regions of Denmark, five regions. 2468 seats were contested in the municipal elections (2005 Danish local elections, previous election: 2522 seats). 205 seats were contested in the regional elections. 2001 Danish Local Elections
The Danish local elections of 2001 were held on 20 November 2001. 4647 municipal council members were elected to 275 municipal councils, as well as members of 14 counties (Danish, ''Amtskommune'' , literally ''County Municipality'') of Denmark. There were 14 counties and 275 municipalities, but the county of Bornholm was merged with its 5 constituent municipalities 1 January 2003 to form ''Bornholm Regional Municipality''. The voters of Bornholm voted in these elections in the soon to be dissolved municipalities and county, but later elected the councillors in a local election 29 May 2002 to lead the newly formed municipality from January 2003. All 2,432 seats were contested for the 2018–21 term of office, together with 205 seats (a fixed number of 41 seats in each council) in five regional councils.
