Hamad Port
Hamad Port is Qatar's main seaport, located south of Doha in the Umm Al-Houl area. Construction of the port began in 2010; it became operational in December 2016. It was officially opened in September 2017, and is expected to become fully operational by 2020. Capable of handling up to 7.8 million tonnes of products annually, the bulk of trade which passes through the port consists of food and building materials. History First unveiled in June 2007, construction of the port began in June 2010. Umm Al-Houl, an area south of the capital Doha and near to industrial city Mesaieed, was selected as the location for the port. Costs of the new port were reported to be $7.4 bn.
